Bacalaureat

So, regarding the exam held at the end of highschool in Romania. The first week is over, I'm doing well, but this ain't really about me as much as about how exactly it occurs.

I have a total of 8 exams, 3 spoken and 5 written. Week one consisted of Romanian, German, English spoken and Romanian written.

Two months before, each of us paid 150RON (=a lot of money here) for the 'protocol'... paying to ease the stress of the supervisors during the exam, so they may be more indulgent with us poor kids.

The spoken exams went very well for everyone. And by everyone, I mean even the idiots who can't string two sentences together properly, much less extract a theme from a text or identify a paragraph. I can't complain though: I received maximum grades in Deutsch, despite not knowing anything about the Romantik (aside from a few keywords). And I got to speak about Crowley at the English exam.

A classmate, P, expressed her opinion regarding 'that mentally and physically retarded guy, who invented the black holes' Stephen King. Maximum grade, of course.

Romanian was amusing. The exact subjects of the exam were known a full hour before it began, and the entire exam centre was in the hallways that hour. The toilets were full of girls digging through their books, answers circulated from hand to hand, and clusters formed around the brains. Chaos, thou art beautiful.

I just hope we get the same freedom of Tuesday, during maths.
