ESM 2009

- was so fucking awesome.

ESM stands for 'European School on Magnetism' which is a magnetism-themed summer school (<- stating the obvious) with people from all over the globe that was organised this year in Timisoara. Well, the magnetism part wasn't what I was really involved in - it was a summer school for masters, phd and post-phd students; I was the person-to-talk-to if they had any problems with the accommodations or with anything not related to the courses.

And the awesome part was socialising with the participants; a big bunch of physicists (135), often getting drunk, cracking nerdy jokes, and everyone with an IQ of over 130. There was a German guy who spoke Japanese, an English guy studying in south-Germany who hated south Germans, a Chinese guy who painstakingly taught me to count to ten in Chinese, another Chinese guy whom I failed to convince to table dance and so many others.

And I got drunk twice (or maybe four times, can't tell). It seems like I'm a laughing drunk - and that my memory is sharper for then than for when I'm sober. I should try it during exams.

I'm half considering doing my masters on a magnetism subject just to get to meet some of them again.

Damn, I really need a physics icon right now.
