a tiny piece of red foil
it sits on my floor and reminds me of meaning

red means passion
red means love
it means excitement

and in that same breath it reminds me that i am alone on this eve of the new years
solitude does not become me
so instead i hide beneath the covers in some semblance of sleep
though caffeine runs through my veins

red means pain
