This is the same post I put on my myspace. Enjoy redundancy.
Following Da[i]na’s lead, I thought I’d list all the books I read in 2006. Sadly, it is nowhere near as impressive nor diverse a list as hers, but c’mon… bitch works in a library. I hork stuff from Half Price Books. And by "hork", I mean I spend money I don't have. Which is nothing like horking.
In no particular order...
Books:
“ChickFlicks: Theories and Memories of the Feminist Film Movement” - B.Ruby Rich
“Burning Your Boats: The Collected Short Stories” - Angela Carter
“Midnight Bayou” - Nora Roberts (it was addictively terrible. Ho-ho’s are better).
“Shadows of Death” - H.P. Lovecraft
“Ammonite” - Nicola Griffith
“The Penguin Book of Modern Fantasy by Women” - ed. Susan Williams, Richard Glyn Jones
“Baroness Elsa: Gender, Dada, and Everyday Modernity: A Cultural Biography” - Irene Gammel
“Zami” - Audre Lorde
“The Red Tent” - Anita Diamant
“America: The Book” - Jon Stewart
“The Truth: with Jokes” - Al Franken
“Echos: Contemporary Art at the Age of Endless Conclusions” - ed. Francesco Bonami
“Sodomy and the Pirate Tradition: English Sea Rovers in the Seventeeth-Century Caribbean” - B.R. Burg
“Lisey’s Story” - Stephen King
Oooh… and some feminist fantasy thing about this matriarchal society where guys are second class citizens, but according to the narrative that’s not really a good thing. Plus getting pregnant is hard to do and determined your "class". And there was some weird race issue involved. It was called “Motherland” or mother-something… won a Tippertree Award I think.
Stuff that’s not books:
All this year’s Bitch Magazine
Zine - “Please Let Me Help!”
Zine - “Fart Party #3”
Zine - “Adventures in Menstruating #2”
“JTHM: Full Compellation” - Johnen Vasquez
“Sickness: The Series” - Johnen Vasquez (reread every year forever…)
I stole someone's "Artforum".
And blogs… lots of blogs.
Books I started, but haven’t finished yet:
“Queering the Pitch: The New Gay and Lesbian Musicology” - ed. Philip Brett, Elizabeth Wood, Gary C. Thomas
“Storyteller” - Leslie Marmon Silko
“The Drag King Anthology” - ed. Donna Troka, Kathleen Lebesco, Jean Noble
“Killing Rage” - bell hooks
“The Power of Display: A History of Exhibition Installations at the Museum of Modern Art” - Mary Anne Staniszewski
“Voices of Color: Art and Society in the Americas” - ed. Phoebe Farris-Dufrene
