the man in the gabardine suit was a spy

I've been checking the stores for at least a week hoping it would show up and it finally did. 800 pages of pretty pretty conspicuous consumption!

For the uninitiated, the Vogue September issue is a complete beast. I've been losing interest in the magazine lately. I only made it halfway through April's annual "Shape" issue (where they promise styles for "every shape" meaning "0-16") so I figured it was time to stop throwing money away on the cover price and I haven't bought it since then. I haven't really missed it, or at least I thought I didn't, but I was still pretty eager to see the big fall issue.

I'll admit, the first thing I went looking for was the latest Louis Vuitton ad, since they're always worth drooling over. This one isn't quite as exciting as the ScarJo ones with the cherry bags, but I would actually rather have one of these newer more low key ones than the screaming logo or god forbid one of those godawful patchwork ones.

Yay retro <3 I liked the Prada one because of the crazy collars she's sporting. Also, if I was ever casting a contemporary version of La casa de Bernarda Alba that's the outfit she'd be wearing.

More trending that makes me happy, warm colors and paisley and argyle prints. Actually I had a little moment when I saw all those paisleys, since my closet is full of them and they walk such a fine line between cute and grandma that I get a little nervous.

Spot the celebrity time. There was also a really odd series of ads featuring Gwyneth Paltrow that I took a video of too but it bonked when I tried to upload it to flickr. I was interested to see Christina Aguilera finally getting some play. It seems past due but maybe she was busy with the baby thing. I don't know why I care. Penelope Cruz is luminous :P

Nothing to special about these shoes, until you realize it's an ad for Payless, doing the designer hi/lo thing like Target did. I'll have to try to try to check them out.

Apparently black lipstick is back in for some unfathomable reason. Gives me flashbacks to some of my worst teenaged crimes against fashion. At least I never did that shit to my hair.

I had another moment when I flipped to this page. I'm extraordinarily irritated that I can't find my post extolling the virtues of Jane Fonda and her mullet from when I first saw Klute. Way to suck ass with your total lack of searchability, LiveJournal. I guess I haven't done as good a job as tagging my back entries as I'd thought because there's just no finding it. Anyway, having skimmed it a little bit I'm going to save this article for last because I'll enjoy it.

I have trouble buying Keira Knightley as a femme fatale. She's like Jessica Alba for me, I want to really like them both but for some reason I just can't get myself to. I'm still holding out for a standout performance, I think.

The second one reminds me of the Cottingley fairies. And I adore the last dress, it looks like something I could actually wear to my next charity gala. I wonder who it's made by...turns out it's Thankoon, from an antique print. It's lovely.

On the page before this, I was shocked by the sight of Dan Radcliffe's bare ass, but I'm sparing you that. I've kinda checked out of the Harry Potter movies (still haven't seen the last one and couldn't really care less about them pushing back the new one to next year) but I can own up to my Dan fan status. If you haven't seen his Extras appearance, you can't judge me!

The last page is always good for a cool snapshot. These aren't actually boots, but rather pumps, spats(!), and lace-up leggings. Spats!
