A polar bear on a tropical island? There are so many reasons that's amazing!

I'm feeling pretty relaxified. Cartoon Network just finished playing my favorite movie evers (when I started this post, anyway) and I'm tiptoeing my way to half in the bag. More on that in a minute though. Here's what I'm up to...

Dearest Mumsy (hereafter known as DM) is outta town so after work today I dragged the Little Brother (LB) out for soup fixings and then to BevMo. DM had baked a chicken a few days back that had been mostly picked clean. I knew we'd have to fend for ourselves for eats once DM left so last night we threw the bones into the slow cooker and made up a stock. LB deserves the credit for any and all grunt work, I'm more of an idea guy and a facilitator in these situations.

Tonight after work we hit Valley Produce for the rest of the soup fixings. Actually it only turned out to be $3.48 worth of fixings: celery, carrots and potatoes. Everything else was from the fridgey. Fixings.

The potatoes boiled in another pan and LB got the veg going in the stock.

Eventually all was thrown together:

It was a little oily maybe, a touch underseasoned, but tasty nonetheless. I only had one bowl (of soup) and for eating on the ultra cheap it was a rousing success.

Oh yeah, LB make some brownie cookie things too. Chocolatey. To me they're cookies but I just looked and the packaging references nothing but brownies.

Now for the booze. LB had some of the Gray Goose and promptly conked out on the couch, not to be heard from for the last 30+. I was getting a cheaper bottle of Skyy when I saw the magical red tag of "on sale".

The coke I bought tonight, everything else was around already:

In honor of Dan and my choice of favorite beverage in the Flickr meme, I had to kick it off with the rum and coke. I put two shots in for most of a soda...on first sip it was very very "black cherry" and syrupy sweet, but I drank it while I wrote all this and it's grown on me. It'd probably be better with a 50/50 mix of the Black Cherry and another unflavored rum. I'm a complete lightweight when it comes to booze so halfway through the drink and the beginning of this post I was a little buzzy but I'm Cool Hand Luke now.

I'm debating whether or not it would be good with a healthy dose of lime, which I usually like in my rum and coke, technically making it a Cuba Libre if I'm not mistaken. I think it would be too much flavor at once though :?

Let's try something else...

I surfed the web awhile before fixing another drink. Not a big drinker, as I said, but I indulged some of my other vices, including but not limited to a Reese's peanut butter cup. Now I'm drinking cranberry black cherry with the Grey Goose. I only put about 1 & 2/3 a shot in this time. Nyquil should taste like this. I'd have a picture (I have ice now!) but one of my roommates (RM2) has somebody over and I don't want to look like that much of a goober.

Bear Gryllis is completely butt ass naked on Man vs Wild right now.

When I was doing the aforementioned surfing, I discovered they're releasing an anniversary edition of Sorcerers Stone with a nifty new cover:

I like it. The Mirror of Erised is one of the most meaningful objects in the book for me, so I like that it's featured so prominently.

You know what I DON'T really like? Drinking. It makes my tummy hurt and makes me want to run around the house flailing my arms around. Sometimes you just have to take the edge off the week though.

I alway start to like a drink more after about ten minutes.

I was kind of hating the world when the first of my alarm clocks went off this morning but I'm pretty groovy now. Gotta start getting ready for Getty soon.
Catching up on this week's Daily Show and Colbert, as I usually do on weekends. On Tuesday's show they intro'd a new correspondent, Wyatt Cenac. Every once in awhile it takes me a few appearances to warm up to a new correspondent. I loved Riggle and Ollie right off the bat but Aasif Mandvi took a little bit of time to grow on me. But if you devote your entire first Daily Show appearance to an extended methaphor comparing the Democratic Primaries to LOST, you're a-okay in my book (no real LOST spoilers, unless you're consider stuff they showed in commercials in season one and the subject line of this post as "spoilers"):

Comedy Central is playing Fargo?!? I've never seen them play this before. Fargo's one of those movies that's on my longstanding list of "Movies I Must See". It definitely funny so far, but Comedy Central is butchering it, as they butcher anything not played uncensored in the Secret Stash. I'll have to watch it some other time, it's not even worth the space to record it when it's chopped up so badly. And I've got to go pick up a cake, and go look at statues and flowers and crap!
