I hate my university's parking and transportation services.
My school has so much money that they're eating up the parking lots and putting up new buildings. To discourage students from using the few parking spaces that remain, they charge nearly $800 for an annual parking pass and provide a free shuttle service for everyone else. In theory, this shuttle service sounds pretty decent.
But it isn't. It is completely unreliable.
It makes no sense to me that I can be eight minutes early for a shuttle that runs every fifteen minutes and miss the damn shuttle. It makes no sense to me that I sometimes wait for these shuttles for thirty minutes. The drivers' obvious indifference to their schedule infuriates me.
Today, I was nearly ten minutes early for the shuttle. Ten minutes after it should have arrived, I decided that I could either be late to class or drive and receive a $25 parking ticket. I drove, but I don't think I should have to pay $25 just to ensure that I make it to class on time.
Yesterday, I was ready and waiting for the shuttle 30 minutes before class and I was still late. I wanted to tell my professor that it wasn't my fault, but I don't want to make excuses. I would rather this be corrected.
My parking ticket today was only for $10 instead of $25, because I parked in 30-minute parking instead of everyday student parking. This policy makes no sense to me. I can park in 30-minute parking, which is unbelievably close to school, or I could park in a no parking zone and my ticket would be $10. Yet if I park in the assiest (yes, assiest) parking space in student parking, I'll be punished with a $25 ticket.
Basically, I could park in the grass outside the building where my class is and they'll fine me less than if I were two blocks away. It's so stupid, is it not?
