Here’s a look at the events that are shaping my world!
1. Caroline’s apartment was burglarized. Her losses include:
A. More than $3600 in cash.
B. A lot of jewelry, most notably earrings made from her mother’s wedding ring.
C. Her Mac Powerbook.
D. One of her external hard drives.
Nothing was taken from her other two roommates, even though one had his own Macbook out and the other had money sitting on a shelf. We figure the thief didn’t have a lot of time and only went in her room.
But she called me at work and she was sobbing, and I went over to her apartment and she was lying on the floor, looking as though she was having a nervous breakdown. There really wasn’t anything that I could do, but I stayed with her until Jirka got home.
2. I’m planning to visit Dirk for Easter. Finally! I’ve been trying to visit him ever since I moved over here, and he is finally ready to give me a long weekend. I understand that it’s been difficult for him to see me in the last year, and I actually might concede that it is better that we’ve waited, but I am very excited. If you recall the holiday I spent with him in Belgium in November of 2006, I referred to those days as some of the best of my life. He really is one of my all-time favorite people and so much fun; I cannot wait!
We actually discussed meeting for Christmas, because I obviously had no one here (aside from my Muslim boyfriend) and Dirk's dad was going to have kidney surgery so they were going to postpone their Christmas, but the surgery was moved. In the end, I was glad I was home and not in Sicily, which was the plan, but only because of my grandfather’s death. I am glad I learned of it when and where I did.
3. Speaking of my grandfather’s death, my mom sent me a parcel with items from the funeral-the obituary, the little slip of paper from the funeral home, etc. And on the day that I saw it in my mailbox, I was so terrified to open it that I thought it might sit on my kitchen table for weeks until I was prepared. Instead, I opened it right then and screamed at the first thing I saw and had to cover it. I sobbed as I looked through everything and then sat in the bath for a very long time.
4. Well, there was a number 4, but number 3 still has such a strong impact on me that I’ll save it for the next time I manage to write.
