I have some sort of cold or sinus infection, so I won't pretend to be coherent. Instead, let's just take a brief look at the people and events that are shaping my world on this rainy 9/11:
1. I had a job interview today. I thought it went fairly well, but past experiences have taught me that I'm not a very good judge of this. I did receive a "we'll definitely be in touch" [emphasis is mine; he didn't actually make it sound, so, well...definite] and a time estimate for round two, but if I don't get the call back for the second interview, I already have a mental list of stupid things I said that certainly contributed to this.
2. Ramadan starts Thursday. Fouad will be fasting and praying five times a day during this month. I hope that his not eating will somehow encourage me to eat less, but he told me the other day that he'd continue to cook for me; he just won't eat. So probably not.
3. I received a package from Dirk in the mail on Saturday. It's a bunch of Time magazines that he thought I'd enjoy reading, partially because he's concerned that I am becoming stupid and partially because I'm American and Time is an American publication, so it's a little piece of home while I'm abroad.
Although, I think the main reason that I have these magazines is that Dirk wants them to continue changing hands until they more or less disintegrate from oily fingers and countless page turns. You see, the person with the Time magazine subscription isn't Dirk. It's David, who is Dirk's ex-girlfriend's husband.
So, David reads them, then gives them to his wife to read, who then gives them to her daughter to read. Then she sends them to Dirk, who reads them and then takes them to the garrison where he works so some of the British soldiers can read them. Now his plan is to recollect them and mail them to me.
It really makes one wonder: What exactly is the shelf-life of a Time magazine?
4. I watched the end of the second season of "Weeds" at Caroline's last night along with the first episode of season three. That show has to be the best thing on the air right now.
Thanks to Caroline, I'm now also hooked on "Grey's Anatomy" and starting the first season of "The L Word." Not having a TV or a very good internet connection means I'm pretty dependent on her for my television viewing. It's a good thing she has such excellent taste.
5. I'm supposed to meet Leon and his brother Sam online at 3 a.m. Prague time, but my internet connection is so terrible that I don't think it's going to happen. Stupid O2 DSL.
Okay, if I kept writing, #6 would be about my ankles and #7 would be the weather so maybe this is a good time to stop. I'll try to get some rest in the next couple of hours and maybe when I wake, I'll be able to breathe through me nose.
