Today Fouad deleted the phone numbers of all the men in my mobile phone. Or at least attempted to. Names like "Petr" and "Jay" obviously got the boot, but the girlish-sounding "Jirka" and androgynous "Kaku" went by unnoticed. Score!
Now, I realize that this is a big, flashing warning sign (and it isn't the first), but I actually find that level of possessiveness sort of sweet. I know; I know. It really doesn't bode well for the future, but it's okay for the moment.
Other things I'll admit to liking:
1. He got really confrontational with a man on the street who gave me elevator eyes. Nothing happened, but Fouad was in the man's face, asking, "What? What?!" in Czech.
2. He did an impression of Caroline's former roommate Asger (who I found quite attractive) and my interaction with him. This basically amounted to Fouad flipping imaginary shoulder-length hair (Asger's, not mine), talking a bunch of gibberish (this would be me), and then laughing heartily (me again).
Fouad met Asger at my birthday party in July, and I guess he was quite jealous that I had a conversation with that Danish heartthrob.
3. He calls me at night, when he's at work. I think it's partly because he's bored, partly because he wants to make sure I'm okay, and partly because he wants to ensure that I'm at home and not out on the town. With other men.
Possessive? Yes.
But he's also incredibly sweet, funny, entertaining, and caring. (And handsome too, for what that's worth.) When he was still working as a mechanic, I used to meet him after work, after which we'd go to the supermarket and then he'd cook dinner. Now he just arrives with a bag of groceries and starts right in. He even bakes cakes.
And ten days ago, Fouad's friend Ali drove us along with Ali's brother and wife to a lake outside of Prague, where Fouad rented a motorboat for the two of us, and I had a really wonderful time.
He also dropped the "L" word--actually, that came out a long time ago, but recently he told me that he loves me more than I love him and that he loves me more every day.
"Every day: more, more, more, more, more!" he said. And then, "Why?" It was like he'd never had such strong feelings for someone and he didn't understand it. That or he was truly baffled that he fell in love with someone as unappealing as me.
I guess we'll just see where this goes.
