My great grandma fell out of bed last night and broke her neck. Apparently, she's fine, or so my mother would have me believe. This really makes me question how my mom filters family information before giving it to me.
According to her, my great grandma will either have screws put in her skull or some sort of neck brace that she will wear for the rest of her life. It sounds terrible but supposedly it's no more life threatening than any other ailment she currently has, and--believe me--there are a lot of those.
Most significantly, she has varicose veins in her throat that cause her to vomit blood. She's on a liquid diet to curb the inflamation. She also has cirrhosis of the liver.
Last Thanksgiving, she had a urinary tract infection and took an antibiotic to which she was allergic. This caused her to get bloody sores all over her skin.
So, I guess this broken neck is just the next item in a long list of health problems. This doesn't mean that I'm not upset about it or that my family isn't upset. I feel awful for her. But the human body is an incredibly resilient thing; and, between that and my family looking out for her, I know that everything will turn out fine.
