Pink Slips, Vandals, & Playpens

I am so glad that Lacey called me last night. She stayed up until 1 am so that she could call (because of the time difference), and I know that she gets up for work at 6 am or earlier. Obviously, she needed to talk.

She's gone through so much shit in the last couple of months that it's just unbelievable. For starters, she lost her job (technically, she resigned). And she lost her job because, among other things, she doesn't force her students to sit up straight. Meanwhile, one of her fellow first-year teachers lets her students sit in bean bag chairs. What. The. Fuck.

After losing her job, Lacey's car was vandalized in her own driveway. There were over 40 vehicles that were vandalized by the same people that night, and she may have been one of the lucky ones (no swastikas, thankfully). Still, she had to get a new paint job.

Then her brother was arrested for underage drinking, which, despite not happening to her, does have a significant effect on her family life. And last night, someone at the women's shelter across the street from her house called the police to break up a fight between her brother and his girlfriend.

I think this girlfriend is psycho. Naturally, she's one of my sister's friends. She also told Sara that Lacey's a fucking bitch. Surprise, surprise.

Anyway, Lacey told me that she nearly had a "playpen incident," which is a reference to the night after Sara's baby shower when I got fucking pissed at my sister and then un-gifted my shower present, locked it in my trunk, and went bowling. I guess a "playpen incident" is reacting in an unreasonable way to the completely unreasonable people around you.

I feel so bad for Lacey. She's an awesome person, and bad shit just seems to keep happening to her. I told her that she and I could go out when Leon and I fly back to St. Louis to visit with our Rabbi. That is, if we get another Rabbi and he still requires seeing us in person.

I have a feeling that I won't see Lacey until the wedding, when I won't be an attentive friend. Not much I can do about that.

wedding, sara, quincy, embarrassing, lacey, alcohol
