hair today, gone tomorrow

saturday was semi-productive as i trekked to C's place to get my hair chopped. ideally, i only wanted a trim, but M became a little to snip-happy that i ended up with a super short 'do (circa '01-'04). she appeared to be genuinely apologetic for cutting more than half my hair, but it was no biggie. i have had many a short 'do in my lifetime and i don't really miss the 15-minute blowdrying sessions every morning.

a few co-workers have commented about the shortness, particularly this bubbly (fairly) new research chick. the conversation went something like this:

bubbly chick: hi! ohmygod, you cut your hair!
me: yeah...
bubbly chick: when did you get it done?
me: saturday.
bubbly chick: which hair salon did you go to?
me: oh, my friend's sister chopped it all off.
bubbly chick: oh, so is she a hair dresser? it looks good on you!
me: not really, she does it for fun.
bubbly chick: wow, you're a brave woman!
me: (thinking to myself) it's just hair...
bubbly chick: well, see 'ya! nice hair again!
me: (mustering a fake smile)

i don't understand the big deal about hair; why some people have so much attachment, an odd preference for girls to have long hair, etc. i don't know, i guess i'm only one of a handful of people who have no problems sporting a "sinead o'connor" hairdo.

but anyway, point of this whole diatribe is: hair grows back, people! geez!
