saturday was quite interesting. we got up at around 11:30, showered, and then it was off to our beach outing. it took about 3 hours when we finally reached grand bend. that's what we get for taking county roads riddled with detours. detours that stretch out to be about 6 city blocks. fucking insane and expensive on gas, if you ask me. if i had it my way, i'd plow through the fields and zip my way to the beach.
grand bend was relatively nice -- nothing beats philippine beaches, of course. but compared to wasaga, grand bend is infinitely better. there were mini-waves everywhere and surprisingly, we didn't have to deal with moss. the waves were something else, though.
we nearly drowned (i can't swim and K's not the greatest swimmer, either) because the currents created deep pockets scattered all over the beach. as we were nearing shore, we came across one of the deep pockets. with arms flailing and drinking gallons of (perhaps, nasty?) water in the process, i struggled to stay afloat. K was still holding onto me and trying his best to pull me to shore. the deep part was just over 6 feet so while he was submerged for about 30 seconds, K grabbed my waist and hoisted me up in the air. thankfully we reached the shallow part and continued our way to the shore.
so, yeah. there goes my first near-drowning experience.
