There are a number of reasons why they aren't evacuating... There is no mandatory evacuation order for where they are. Even if there was, they wouldn't be able to leave because her husband Chris is the fire chief for the local volunteer fire department, and she is one of the volunteer firefighters. They are the evacuation point for much of the rest of the family, because they are farther inland and have a sturdy house (The house next to theirs got blown off the foundation during Rita, theirs suffered minor damage).

They also have many preparations for weathering the storm- 2 generators (and shotguns to protect said generators), they're on a private well, have propane stove for sources of heat and cooking, as well as MRE's (military "meals ready to eat"), plenty of charcoal for the firepit outside, plenty of bottled water, first aid kits, and much foodstuffs that can be cooked using propane or that don't need refridgeration. The only thing Tanya is worried about not having enough of is toilet paper. There are 14 of them bunkered down at her house, and tp is her main concern. I told her to enact boot camp tp protocols- 1 square for #1, 2 squares for #2. :)
