A/N:. Another short vignette from the "Jack jumps" fic that I'm writing for nighttiming1022 . I think I'm going to do this as a series of short parts, which I'll collect under a single heading when I have enough.

Jack’s whole body feels numb as he wakes, blinking up at the roof of his dark tent above him. He doesn’t remember how he got here: he doesn’t remember much of anything after he crawled out of the water. He realizes he’s dry again, almost naked, but warm, because there is a blanket draped over him and a woman lying close against his side.
“Jack,” Juliet mumbles when he opens his eyes, her brow creasing as if she’s in pain.
“What’s the matter?” he finds himself asking, forgetting all the obvious questions like “What happened?” and “How did I get here?”
She winces.
“Hangover.”
“Hangover?” he repeats, momentarily surprised into forgetting his misery.
“I got through nearly two thirds of a bottle of rum before Miles found you on the beach,” she murmurs, rubbing her hand against his shoulder, “Which was great timing, considering how many stitches you needed.”
“You stitched me up while you were drunk?”
She nods at him as if it hurts her to move her head, but that doesn’t seem to prevent her from raising her eyebrow delicately and whispering, “Believe me Jack, I read your file: the irony wasn’t lost on me either.”
He closes his eyes for a minute, lifting his hand to rub at his brow.
Before he can open them again, Juliet leans into him and confides, “I think they might be a little crooked.”
