I've now just caught up, and I love the way you've captured the developing relationship between Jack and Juliet (and Charlotte and Dan; my two favourite pairings in one fic, which is so unusual and awesome), and balance keeping the action moving along with the slowly unfolding interactions between all of them. I've got a soft spot in general for S4 fics, but I'm so intrigued by all the developments here -- why the operating room changes, what that sound and light meant, Juliet appearing in Charlotte's photo, how it ties in to the larger mythology -- and I can't wait to see where you take it!

My ideas about where I'm going with the plot are a little vague right now (it's so freaking hard to try to remember and make coherent all the loose ends on Lost), but I can tell you that I had meant for the sound and light to indicate one of the "flashes" like those that happened during S5. They're going to be a little different than they were on the show, but that's the general idea.
Thanks again for reading!

It's funny: the more I write J/J, the more I realize that one of the most enjoyable parts of their dynamic for me was that they worked well together (on surgeries, on coming up with plans, on missions through the jungle, etc.)--even on the show, Juliet and Jack were almost always advancing the plot in some way, so that the emotional dynamic between them didn't feel as "tacked on" to the main storyline as it did with some of Lost's other 'ships.

Your characterizations of Jack/Juliet and Daniel/Charlotte. (especially Daniel) are so wonderful. I can so easily imagine and see them doing these things and hear them saying these things.
And, one of the things I love best about your fic is how you describe the what the characters are feeling/what they are experiencing.
He moved slightly and felt the stitches pulling, wiring tight inside him. The pain was intolerable; he felt like a corpse.
feeling his anger recede like the tide
(there were more but these were my favorite). They paint the picture so clearly for the reader.
Douche!Jack was well done. I both loved and hated him in this chapter. And, I cannot wait to see where you go with your 'what if.'
So sorry to take over your comment space on this chapter, but I simply adore this fic ♥

I'm so very glad that you thought douche!Jack worked here -- it took me forever to write and edit that section. Because I want to show Jack changing gradually and working out some of his issues in this fic, I was trying to get it to sound as much like Jack did on the show without turning him into the over-the-top insane d-bag he sometimes became during S4 (I always thought his fickle abandonment of Juliet in "SNBH" was one of the worst OOC moments for his character, but there were many others as well).
I can tell you, though, that as far as my fic is concerned, Jack is very sorry for acting like a jerk and will be charmingly repentant in the immediate future.
How's that for taking up the comment space? ;)
