Being Erica 1x01-1x03; How I Met Your Mother 4x17; United States of Tara 1x10; Castle 1x01 and 1x02
Ah I'm so failing this mini-hiatus of the Internets. And why am I picking up new shows when I'm not caught up on other ones I should be catching up on? (Just to name three: Big Love [which has 10 episodes this season, WHAT? the finale's on the 22nd aka SUNDAY?], Chuck, and Heroes.) I'm blaming missyahtzee. I've seen the first three episodes of Being Erica now and it's seriously adorable ♥ I keep getting Wonderfalls vibes and that's not just because Tyron Leitso is in it. The protagonist Erica is a brunette like Jaye. The BFF is a black woman. Blonde mother that vaguely reminds me of Karen Tyler. While Erica isn't in her mid-20s like Jaye (Erica's in her early 30s), she's still going through a crisis that's too early too be considered mid-life. Inanimate objects don't talk to Erica, but she does have a bit of a 'sode in the first episode. Her life's falling apart and she meets Dr. Tom, a therapist who promises her that he can change her life if she just trusts him.
And he does! He asks her to write out a list of regrets, things she wishes she could have changed. And one by one, we visit her regrets. I mean, Erica actually goes back in time to change the outcome of certain events in her life. There's a life lesson learned in every episode.
I got the distinct impression that the first episode was during the late '80s? What's up with the mid-90s now? (Though I guess I must remember Robin Scherbatsky saying that "The 80s didn't come to Canada til like '93.")
It's so weird seeing Tyron being so cleanly shaven! But I agree with the sentiment that he looks as though he hasn't aged. Squee for Ethan/Erica kiss in 1x03! Something beyond the first three episodes that I know: Though thanks to Z's post, I know that they get put on the back burner. Presumably in 1x04 since that's what she had seen by the time she made her post about the show!
Oh and the music's great, too.
Can't spend too time talking about the show though 'cause now I want to talk about the new How I Met Your Mother! lolol to the nightgowns Marshall and Barney wore. And omg! A mention of VICTORIA. I always liked her and Ted. I would not be opposed to Victoria being the mother.
I also was really amused with Robin's show being on in the background on mute! Seeing flashes of what was going on, aww. And double aww to her showing pictures of the gang! Too bad they failed to watch.
And now moving onto United States of Tara 1x10! What the FUCK? T making out with Jason? That's just not cool, man. I get that Jason's totes closeted, but I'm so sadface for Marshall! And I cannot believe he tried to burn down the shed!
I really hope Kate gets Gene for sexual harassment. He's such epic fail.
Oh and on Castle? I finally saw the first episode before my night class tonight and then I saw the second episode live. So it's your pretty standard fare for a crime show, but dude, it's Nathan Fillion! Thanks to a Tweet from wordsleadmeon to me a couple weeks ago, I know that Nate got his start on One Life to Live (I knew he got his start on soaps thanks to "Commentary! The Musical" but I didn't know which one until Court mentioned it), so that shout-out on tonight's episode was HILARIOUS.
(This gets outside of the cut because it starts deviating from Castle.) Also Sarah Drew was PHENOMENAL in tonight's episode, I thought. I love that she's cropping up everywhere lately even though I don't think I was particularly a fan of Hannah Rogers when the show was on because the people I was hanging around with in the Everwood fandom didn't like her. I think it stemmed from the fact that we got spoilers where she was COMPLETELY different than how she ended up being, so we were bitter that the show didn't go in that direction. (In case you were wondering: our spoilers pointed to her being like her Wonderfalls role or a lesbian totally in love with Amy. From my old site: Hannah casting side #1 and Hannah casting side #2)
