Many things chewed away at Godot, gnawing at his conscience like a dog at a bone. Many things frustrated Godot, failing to make the highjump of his expectations and plummeting to a crashing disappointment. Few things, however, humbled Godot. How exactly did you humble a man, when the fuel to the fire that burned away in his gut was his own self loathing. He let down the people most important to him. He let down Mia. He let Mia die.
And now, now he had let down Maya and all the people that he was so desperately trying to protect.
He wouldn't let down Shalice as well. At least, not any more. He'd inflicted his own share of pain on her this last week. There was no way he could stand by, useless as a scarecrow.
Strolling down the corridors, his posture gave away nothing of his rage. It was the hold on his coffee cup that betrayed him, knuckles inching close to white and the memory of ceramic shards cutting his palm absently bubbling away at the back of his mind.
With a grin on his face, he knocked at Kuchiki's door. Here he was; judge, jury and executioner.
