Seifer almost drew back with the aggressiveness of Toph. Then again, he didn't really know her as well as he thought. "Don't mean to be creepy. I think of myself as more scary or intimidating. Besides, if you think I'm going to fight a girl who knows the earth too well on foot, you'd be mistaken.
Seifer gave a short chuckle and an uncomfortable grin. "Funny, you'd think a 7th year studying you and your style would be taken as more of a compliment. Toph, do you know the kind of shit I'd have to run through if I was caught being taught by a first year that wasn't even Slytherin? There'd be nothing but chaos for me. I need to learn from you. I have to advance myself. And if you wanted to advance your fighting..."Seifer held up the keenly wooden sword he had carried around with him. "You can learn from this."
Then slapped his forehead while remembering that Toph was blind. "I'll teach you aspects of swordfighting. You'll be able to duel in no time. And if you study me closely enough, you could have a chance at being second best. Sorry, the top spot is mine. All I ask for is a tutorial on your boulder chucking." Looking to see the bald-headed kid and PallaPalla running up and Rangiku observing from afar, Seifer changed his words to frustrated whispers. "Fucking hell...if you can, meet with me later tonight by the lake. I'll be practicing there and you can watch...er, observe. Maybe a lesson if you're lucky. But you can't tell anyone about your teaching me. Do we have a deal?"
"First of all, I'm a second year. Second, I don't care what you think or yourself, I'm going to be number one." Lowering her voice so the others couldn't hear, Toph continued. "If you want lessons so badly though, I guess I can teach you. I will meet you tonight, at midnight, and you better not be late."
Sticking her tongue out at Seifer, she huffed and walked away to her dorm. She had totally forgotten about Twinkletoes and Palla, who she just left behind.
Seeing Toph answering back to Seifer and his reaction made Rangiku chuckle. As the young Gryffindor turned and made her exit, Ran nodded to Seifer and directed a wave at PallaPalla and Aang. The display seemed over for now and there was nothing she wanted more than a long, luxurious bath.
And she needed to get started on that charm for Larxene. Hmmm.
Aang looked between the back of his retreating friend, and the small group of people she had left behind. His vision shifted between the two before he finally turned back to Toph and went after her. He was rather curious as to what that had all been about, and he would rather ask Toph for answers than Seifer.
Pallas had no idea what the hell had just happened, but she didn't really care where Toph was going. She didn't really care where Aang was going, either, for that matter. Something happened, Toph stormed off, and she wasn't interesting now.
Seifer was interesting. Pallas had heard stories. Some were kind of scary. She simply didn't have anything to say to him. Still, she stood there and watched him. He was kind of cool. Maybe he'd jump around in a circle on one leg or something. That would be interesting, certainly.
Though she didn't know it, Pallas made a big mistake. She didn't know it because while Seifer was impressed with the acceptance of the invitation, he was still insulted by Toph's choice to talk back to him with a few people watching, including a certain professor who sat from a distance and enjoyed the show. The tongue sticking out was the next to last straw, still leaving him in a Medusa-gazed stillness of surprise. It wasn't until he shifted his eyes to see Pallas sitting there watching him, acting like he was supposed to be a spectacle of some sort, that sent him over the edge.
He approached Pallas in a raging strut, shoved the wooden sword back into the leather scabbard he carried, and stopped just before her gaze. He bent down to be eye-to-eye with her. His face was puckered in anger and his eyes seemed like they could burn through stone. "What. are. you. looking. at?"
Toph silently cursed to herself when she felt Twinkletoes hot on her trail. What did he want? None of this concerned him. She stopped in the hallway and waited for the young boy to catch up with her.
