More importantly, if he didn't do something, he'd probably go stir-crazy inside the castle. He offered the girl a hand up.
"Need a sparring partner?"

Taking his hand, she stood up with ease and dusted off her clothes. No sense in letting what snow had gotten attached to them seep in, though she could stand both the cold and water that came with it. Taking a better look at Riku, she noted his indifferent air and, on closer inspection, the apparent boredom. Shaking her head, she grinned.
"Well, I wouldn't turn one down."

Riku smiled and glanced over at the gear scattered on the ground. "How much of a warm up do you usually do?"

"Did you want to go hand to hand or use weapons? Or a mix?"

Taking off his cloak and outer robes, Riku started stretching. It was a good thing he'd dressed for comfort today in a battered old shirt and well-worn trousers and boots. It was chilly, but not unbearable with the sun out.

"Same here," Mulan noted, slipping out of the sweatshirt she had donned that morning along with her usual training attire. She went through a few more simple stretches as she waited for her new partner to finish his own warm up.

He walked over to the pile of training gear and hefted a practice sword. It was a little lighter than he was used to, but it had good balance. "Can I borrow this?"

Walking a bit away, she took up a position and called out, "Ready when you are!"

"You asked for it," she teased, dropping her posture slightly as she ran forward - her steps light upon the ground, direction clear - giving off the first blow.

He'd have to be careful, a corner of his mind whispered, but no, this was just a spar. A sword fight. Nothing Dark about it. Even if Mulan was a girl and he'd probably be more lenient than otherwise.

Mulan may of been a girl, but her gender held no reference to her skills or abilities. She had a fair deal of life experience behind her.

"Long at what exactly?" she asked, still keeping a keen eye on her opponent as they talked.

As he swept his leg out, she blocked his kick with ease, catching it and pushing him a bit away. She then followed up the movement with a sweep of her own leg to trip him up.
