Vanille was not particularly accustomed to presents in general, let alone ones given for apparently no reason by people she was not very familiar with. But Fang liked Aerith, had told her she should make friends, even, and if Fang liked someone, Vanille would like them too ( ... )

Aerith wouldn't be hard to find. After dropping off the gifts individually, she had exited the castle and paused, momentarily, in a lovely patch of sunshine. Though she didn't like to look at the sky, she did love the warmth of the sun on her skin.

When she heard the sweet sounds of a contented sheep nearby, she opened her eyes and looked around curiously. A sweet smile crossed her lips as Vanille approached. Linking her arms behind her back, she tilted her head.

"You weren't joking!" which was a wonderful thing, really, "Have you named them?"

The baby sheep wiggled excitedly in Vanille's arms as she walked toward Aerith, which she took as a sign that the other professor would indeed be a good friend. Animals were usually good judges of character, Vanille found, and if the sheep was happy to see Aerith, then Vanille was as well.

"Not joking!" she agreed, nodding and smiling brightly, holding the sheep out for Aerith to hold. "I name everything! This one's Cotton." She shifted slightly, hip jutting out to one side, and put a finger to her chin thoughtfully. "You can rename her, if you want!" Aerith looked like she'd be good at names, not like Lightning. Who calls a pet George, really?

Aerith's smile broadened when she saw how excited the little sheep was. How could she not gather Cotton into her arms? As soon as Vanille handed her over, she cuddled her close, rubbing her cheek against the sheep's fuzz.

"I noticed!" she caressed the sheep's ears, watching Vanille with curious green eyes, "I like her name. She'll be Cotton with me too." she grinned, "Though I'll probably give her a lot of nicknames too!"

She could think of several right off the bat. Of course, they might be too cutesy to say in public. Not that Aerith ever cared about that sort of thing.

If Aerith had known Vanille better - something Vanille was now determined to change - she would have known that no name was too cutesy to her. Vanille was, some might say, the master of adorable pet names; it was a wonder, with her simplistic naming scheme, that she had managed so far not to name two animals the same thing!

"Nicknames are fun," she said, clasping her hands together behind her back. "Sometimes Fang calls me Princess!"
