As usual, Roxas sat by himself...or as much by himself as he could, since the table was full. Ever since his third year, he'd wished he could just skip this part...and this year was no different. He ate slowly and quietly, hoping that he'd look unavailable for any conversation. He was also quite aware that was impossible with his House, especially with Sora around.

It didn't stop him from trying his hardest to look like he was going to murder anyone who so much as brushed against him or acted as if they wanted to hold a conversation with him.

Axel had taken up a set near Roxas, having no spare seats near anyone else he knew. He didn't really mind the arrangement, but he new from experience that short-blond-and-emo could be a bit of a downer at these kinds of thngs.

"You know, the point of the feast is to enjoy it."

Roxas paused for a moment, as if he were about to say something but thought better of it, and simply ignore Axel pointedly instead.

Axel was always the type to just insult back if Roxas said anything, so this time Roxas decided that simply pretending that tall-red-and-annoying didn't exist would be a much more successful endeavor.

...Not that either one had ever really worked before.

"No snappy comeback?" Axel pressed on, sounding falsely disappointed. It figured, he tried to get Roxas to talk and got nothing but a stare in return. What a load of fun this feast was going to turn out to be.

"It wouldn't kill you to have fun, you know."

"It wouldn't kill you to shut up, either," came the curt reply that Axel was probably expecting. For all he couldn't stand the older student's guts, Roxas had to admit that guy had him pretty much figured out.

Fiesty. He hadn't expected to get on Roxas's nerves that quickly. Oh well, all for the better- Roxas was so very amusing when he was annoyed.

"Oh ouch, Blondie. Watch it you might hurt someone with word like that." He responded, leaning with an elbow on the table. "You try to make conversation and end up bitten. Such an attitude."

"Fuck off and leave me alone, Axel." Why did the guy always insist on bugging him whenever he was near?

All right, so Roxas was more than a little touchy- it wasn't even fun this way. "Fine, whatever. You want to be all alone I won't stop you." He muttered.

"Ax-" Roxas choked over the name. That...wasn't what he...

Roxas forced himself to change his train of thought. It wasn't like he cared about Axel or anything.

Axel flinched as he heard Roxas choke on the first syllable of his name. Maybe he had been a bit harsh with that last comment.

"I was serious you know." He said with a sigh. "It wouldn't kill you to have some fun. You don't have to be so serious all the time. Smile once in awhile- it won't hurt, I promise." He turned back to Roxas, smirking a bit to try and relieve the tension that little moment had brought on.

"Right..." Roxas answered quietly, turning back to his plate.

Why was it so wrong in this school to just want to be by yourself?

Sigh, and there came the quiet act again. Why in the world was it so hard to get Roxas out of that damned shell of his? Furthermore- why did Axel really care that much? Oh right...they had been on the way to being something like friends before Roxas had thrown up those damned walls a few years ago. Axel wasn't exactly the one to let a sudden change like that go.

"Do you always have to go quiet on me? Makes being friendly real hard kid."

Roxas went back to his meal for a few moments before his stomach told him he should stop. Something was eating away at him about Axel, and the first sign was a queasy, nauseated feeling that Roxas hated.

"I'm sorry," he whispered so only Axel could, coming off a little snappish-- far more than he'd wanted to.

Axel was actually surprised to hear those words, snappy or not. It wasn't a normal occurrance for Roxas to apologize for his attitude under any circumstances- at least not to Axel.

"Don't worry about it." Axel replied with a laugh. "Wasn't exactly expecting an apology there anyway. Just try and take what I said to heart. It could do you some good to smile a bit."

It took a lot of effort for Roxas not to tell Axel to fuck off again. His mouth twitched a little, but he stayed quiet.

He couldn't touch anymore of his food. He could hardly even look at it.
