Mnemosyne nudged Naminé with his nose. She nodded, visibly shaken but trying to be brave. "Yes, at least, I think it's you. I just...I have this feeling," she tried to explain. It was so hard to though when she had no idea what was going on.
She nodded again at the next question. She'd read about people who could see the future, but she'd never encountered any text dealing with this. Naminé took a small comfort in the woman's reassuring hand. "O-okay," she said weakly, taking a seat in a nearby chair.
Cautiously she pulled her hands away from the book, "I...I was just drawing and suddenly I was getting images of things I don't think I could ever come up with. And I had to draw them." She closed her eyes, not wanting to look at the picture again, the one she knew was connected to Alyss. Slowly from her sketch book she pulled a picture drawn in her usual colored pencil. The image was clearly two figures running in the distance, one a girl and the other a tall man with a hat. Pursuing the pair was a large, monstrous thing that was very clearly in the shape of a cat.
Alyss took a seat close to Naminé, paying close attention to her. "A feeling that it's me. That you drew me?" Her head cocked to the side. What sort of thing could it be that the girl knew but wasn't sure?
"Did anything happen before you... started..." Her voice trailed off as Naminé pulled out the picture, showing it to her. Eyes widening, the professor stared at it, easily masking the discomfort rising up in her. That was her. And Hatter Maddigan. Gently, Alyss took the picture from Naminé's hands, taking a deep breath as her gaze moved on from her seven year old self to the assassin behind them.
"How in the world did you know about this?" Her voice was soft. It wasn't commonly known about Wonderland's recent troubles. Nobody knew about this particular memory.
Naminé was quiet, she was scared but it was also due to the fact she couldn't explain this. "I don't remember...I--I think I went into a kind of trance. I just started drawing these things." Her head fell again, avoiding Professor Heart's eyes.
She tensed up when Professor Heart studied the picture. "I don't know. It just...it came to me."
It was disconcerting, at best, for Alyss as she continued to stare at the picture. Continued to stare at the humanoid figure known as the Cat. Finally, she dragged her eyes away from the figures, looking Naminé over.
"It's alright. I was just... surprised," she murmured. "Is this the first time that you have ever done anything like this?"
She nodded again, it was hard to put into words how all of this was affecting her. She knew it had to be some kind of magic ability. She just wasn't sure she'd ever heard of it before. Professor Heart may not be an expert but she was someone Naminé felt close to and wasn't quite as shy around.
She finally looked up at the Professor, "What do you think?"
"It seems as though... You've been able to see the past, perhaps?" Alyss tilts her head, studying the picture again before staring down at her young student. "This is... A none too fond memory of mine. Something from my past when I was a little girl," she explained, trying to figure it out herself as well as trying to help Naminé.
The explanation made sense to her, and she continued with it, her finger tapping against the man in the hat. "The only people who know about this are myself, this man"--and then she hesitates before tapping the assassin--"and the Cat."
I am so sorry this is late, I got busy with classes D:be_notnobodyJuly 10 2010, 18:08:35 UTC
Naminé blinked, surprised by this idea. She had never thought about being able to see the past. Now that she thought about it though...if one could see the future then certainly there were people who could see the past. "How is that possible? Is it rare," Naminé asked, looking up at Professor Heart.
"I'm sorry," she said without much thought. It seemed awful to her that she should witness what was probably not a good memory but also something that was probably private to one of her favorite professors. She thought about asking for more details, like about the man or the Cat. However, Naminé didn't think it was her place to pry...even if she had drawn it on the page.
No problem! <333 Classes can do that to you.misplacedqueenJuly 11 2010, 16:35:09 UTC
Although Alyss had never quite heard of anyone being able to see into the past, it wouldn't have surprised her. The world was full of unexplainable things, and the past was as important as the future. "I... Don't know, to be honest. But being able to see into the future is quite rare, so perhaps your gift is rare as well. I wouldn't think that seeing the past would be as popular to others as seeing the future."
Alyss blinked before letting her face relax into a soft smile. "No, it's fine. It was long ago, fourteen years now. And from what you've told me, you couldn't exactly help with what you saw."
To be honest, Namine wasn't sure she liked the idea of having a rare gift. Being a witch was enough for her...she really didn't want her classmates thinking she was strange. Even worse, what if they wanted her to try and find out secret memories of others. She couldn't do it. She didn't want this gift. If Alyss was paying attention she could probably see the look of dread flashing over Namine's face like a huge headlight.
"No...I didn't even realize. Do you...is there a way to control it?"
"I..." Alyss bit down on her lip, unsure of the right words to say to Namine concerning her gift. The dread flashing over the girl's face made it even worse. And so she just went with the truth. "In all honesty, I have no idea. It was my impression that divining the future was not something you could control, so it could be the same with this. Or perhaps, with practice, you could figure out a way to control it."
She flashed a small and comforting smile. "But I don't know, so it might be better to ask someone else who might have more answers."
She took a deep breath. Professor Heart was being very nice to her despite having been shown such a troubling memory. The small girl nodded. "I think...I think I'll look a little bit into it myself...before bringing it up to a professor."
Namine looked up at Professor Heart. "Can you please keep this a secret for now? I...I don't want to worry anyone else until I figure out more about this. I...I dont' want to bother anyone."
The memory wasn't troubling Alyss as much as Namine's worry was at this moment, and truly, the young woman had put this behind her as best as she could. "If you need any help, I would be glad to assist, of course. Or if you just need to talk about it."
She opened her mouth, as if to say something, before nodding quietly. "Don't worry. Your secret is safe with me, Miss Snow. I will not tell a soul. Just try to not keep this to yourself for too long, alright?"
Alyss looked down at the picture again, quietly pondering what to do with it. "Would you mind if I kept this?"
