Clearly Kakashi found Lightning's suggestion an amusing one. "Well now, that is an interesting idea, but I wouldn't want to give away all my secrets."

Treating it like children were supposed to, was probably how that sentence would have finished had it continued. Kakashi could actually sympathize with Lightning's situation more than she probably realized. Despite his sometimes goofy antics, it was still hard for the former assassin to break with his own old habits and treat the children of Hogwarts as teenagers, not soldiers. While some of the students at the wizarding school might one day go on to be soldiers, Aurors, or other important roles that would thrust them into danger, that was a decision they would have to make in the future. For now the staff's obligation was to give them a foundation in the skills they would need to make a life for themselves, and a safe environment in which to grow. For old warriors it could be hard to adapt to the silliness and frivolity of school life, certainly Kakashi hadn't been the most understanding of instructors, particularly to Sakura, but that was a challenge they had to overcome.

Letting Lightning change the subject, Kakashi smiled with his eyes in a way that suggested he was very glad she asked that question. Reaching into a pouch, he calmly pulled out a roll of fabric and with a flick of the wrist unraveled it to show a simple black mask with a border of white right where it would be tucked into his collar, upon which was affixed a rather dashing bow tie. "Naturally."

Raising an eyebrow in amusement at Lightning, Kakashi chuckled. "Of course. The instant the students think they know everything you do there is no end to the backtalk."

Soldiers survived by having that mentality ingrained into their very being, it was not something they could forget in a day. Kakashi understood that better than most, having been fighting a war when he was far younger than his students were now. Still, not wanting his students to see the things he had was one of the motivations that drove him to retain his post. That and there was better pay.

Looking pleased, Kakashi smiled in his own unique way at his fellow teacher. "Well that is the idea, though I'm aware it takes a special sort of woman to be interested in someone with my job. Luckily I've prearranged much of my evening's company already. One can never be too prepared."

"They never do," Kakashi admitted dryly, "But that's all the more reason not to encourage them." Ironically he had been the ideal student for many years, or at least what he had come to believe was the ideal. It had taken the loss of a good friend to break him from the line of thinking that rules were an absolute that needed to always be followed.

Laughing slightly, Kakashi scratched the back of his head and assumed a practiced bashful expression. "I see you've already seen through my cunning plan. Though I'll be the first to admit that romance has never really been my priority." Teasing was not something Kakashi minded, it kept him grounded, and given how much he dished out he figured that he had a lot of it coming. "Of course, especially an escape plan."

"Not at all." Discipline was something Kakashi believed in firmly as well. While he might encourage his students to defy unjust rules, especially ones that would force them to abandon their comrades, that did not mean he felt there should not be consequences for their actions. No matter how noble the act, there were always consequences both foreseen and unforeseen, and his students needed to be taught to expect that truth.

Reaching up to rub his chin through his mask, another one of those expressive movements he'd had to pick up to make himself understood under the getup he wore, Kakashi mused, "Well, I wouldn't say that. It can actually be a great deal of fun, particularly certain parts." The parts outlined in great detail in his books, "but that is only if both parties understand what they are in for. I have to admit I can't see myself settling down with anyone, I prefer things a bit more casual. Then they don't get in the way of my other interests." Of course there were more complex reasons than that, but long ago Kakashi had abandoned that level of self reflection as overly self indulgent and pointless.

Her next question, however, inspired a sneaky expression from the masked professor, and still rubbing his chin he answered, "Well, there are a few other possibilities that come to mind, but I suppose you are not the type of woman who needs others to remind her she has very nice legs."

Shrugging, Kakashi just let the matter drop with a simple, "Everyone needs to figure out how to fill the time for themselves." He had seen too much death to take the little time he'd stolen from himself for granted, and while he was not the type to try and squeeze every last drop of life out of his day, he also wasn't the sort to pass up a chance at enjoyment when it was offered to him.

Kakashi would submit that it was possible, if only because so many people in his life managed to do it to him. "It is, however, a nice unintended bonus."

"So do I," Kakashi agreed, "But we can't always be constructive."

That got a surprised chuckle out of the former assassin, and smirking under his mask he replied, "Well, I suppose that's one way men's formal wear is more convenient. If you need to borrow a leg strap, an old friend left me one that matches the dress."

Kakashi's smile changed not a single iota as he nodded. "A very interesting friend."

One who was long dead, like most of his old friends, but who still lived on in Kakashi's memories and a name etched on a solitary rock in a land very far away.

"Yes, it does," Kakashi replied cryptically. Staring up at the display, he rubbed his masked chin again in contemplation. "Well, I could use some insight on finding a suit that's both stylish and has space for concealed weapons."
