Gladrags Wizardwear-Lucy and Erza, Closed for nowjigglingkeysJune 15 2010, 02:05:34 UTC
Humming happily to herself, Lucy practically floated from rack to rack shifting through a number of different dresses and occasionally adding one to the small pile she'd started. While her small allowance at the school limited what she could actually buy, there was no harm in allowing herself to try on a few cute dresses. Besides, even with her limited funds, nothing could get her down at this point, not when Erza had asked her to the ball

For once, Erza was not entirely oblivious to how Lucy was acting. She'd asked her to pick dresses in a friendly matter, not with the intent of...a date, but Tsukino, Sulu, and the others that commented her ill-worded journal entry had made her think that perhaps, her friendly invite had been taken with more...romantic intentions in mind. Erza had no idea how to deal with most emotions (the solution was, typically punching people. And she couldn't punch anyone at the moment), and so this was...new.
And horrifying.
She smiled back, briefly, and quickly returned her attention to the dress racks, trying not to make her slowly rising panic evident. What if Lucy thought the same thing Tsukino and Sulu thought? She would have discarded it as Tsukino's usual rampant stupidity, but Sulu wasn't stupid. And if that were the case, what would she do? She could tell the truth, but that might be upsetting. But if she didn't, then what would happen? And would it really be that terrible? After all, Lucy was a friend, and she wouldn't do anything

For once Lucy was the less observant of the pair, completely missing Erza's discomfort in the course of her own excitement. Flashing Erza a brilliant smile, she nodded rapidly at the other girl's conclusion. "Oh, white would look so pretty with your hair and skin. You'd be like a beautiful warrior woman like Joan of Arc," she added with a teasing grin.
Holding up the dress in her hand, one that could be appropriately dubbed a little red dress, she tilted her head and asked, "What do you think?"

To her horror, Erza felt color rising in her cheeks. She was grateful she'd turned away from Lucy to observe the dresses lined on the racks instead. She coughed. "Thank you." Her grip on one of the dresses was like a vice.
So preoccupied with thoughts of escape, she only dimly registered that Lucy was speaking to her, and turned back to address her, her eyes widening a fraction at the...length of the dress. Normally, these things did not bother her, but normally she wasn't on a date(!!!) with Lucy. The implications were...different this time. "It's...very nice," she managed.

This time a bit of Erza's tension did get through, but Lucy decided not to comment on it. Erza was a very proud young woman, and could sometimes have trouble expressing herself. Trying to force things out of her usually only made them worse

It was fortunate that her obvious discomfort was going unnoticed, because although she was becoming increasingly worried, she did not want to run the risk of upsetting Lucy, when it was her own fault they were having this...misunderstanding in the first place. She was a loss at how to remedy it, save telling the truth, and Lucy seemed so happy. She didn't want to ruin that

"I know I know," Lucy assured her with an affectionate sigh. Really, same old Erza, citing regulations at a time like this. She knew her friend took her position very seriously, and she respected that devotion to duty, but she still couldn't help but wish the other girl would relax a little from time to time. After all, this trip was supposed to be fun, a chance for them to be a little girly after everything that had happened recently. "Don't worry, I have no intention of letting our classmates get such a good look at my legs." Then she smiled sneakily and teased, "Though if you want me to try it on just for you I would

Erza swallowed, hard, and shook her head after a moment of thought. "Ah..." Her tone slipped into something more relaxed, casual. When situations were serious, and didn't involve an audience, Erza could be a very convincing actress, without even realizing it herself. "No, that isn't necessary. I'm sure you'll look lovely in the dress, or anything else you choose to wear." She smiled. No need for Lucy to pick up on her unease.
Erza blinked at the blushing, and took a moment to figure out exactly what she was blushing about, which made her cough into her fist and neatly put the dress back on the rack. "I should pick something that covers up a bit more. It wouldn't do for a Prefect to be turned away from a dance because of inappropriate clothing."

A amazing actress Erza was, and Lucy totally bought her performance, though perhaps the fact that her crush had paid her such a complement helped to divert her attention away from any odd behavior as well. "You think so?" Lucy asked, suddenly feeling rather shy as she tilted her head down and glanced up through her bangs to try to mask her blush and the small joyful smile that spread over her lips. Confident in her looks she might be, but there would always be a part of Lucy who was that shy little girl who had wanted nothing so much as to hear her father say just once that he loved her.
"R-right." Now blushing for an entirely different, and perverted, reason, Lucy fidgeted for a moment to cover her slip, before her mouth got ahead of her, "Though maybe you could buy it for another time. I mean, you never know when you might need more than one dress."
Immediately Lucy wanted to sink into a hole. Really, how did she always make an idiot out of herself?

"I do," Erza mentally sighed in relief. So it seemed at least, that Lucy's attention had been successfully redirected. Now if only she could keep this up until the end of this shopping excursion, and things would be perfectly fine.
This time, now that she had relaxed a bit, she was not entirely aware of the reason behind Lucy's blushing, and began to look through the dresses again, this time a bit more carefully than she had been. "That is true, and it is a very nice dress..." She thought for a moment, and then picked the dress up again and neatly set it to the side, for later.
After a while of searching for a dress for the ball, to no avail, she finally asked Lucy, "Would you like to help me look?"

The smile Erza's complement earned her could very likely light up the entire town, and her efforts to distract Lucy seemed to be a complete success. Luckily for Erza Lucy had a good enough head on her shoulders not to over think her friend's complement, although it did give her hope that maybe she did have a chance at catching her friend's eye.
Further pleased by Erza's decision to keep her dress, Lucy returned to her own task for a few minutes before Erza's request for help returned her attention to her friend. "Of course," Lucy replied, making her way over to Erza and rubbing her chin as she considered the dresses. "First of all we should settle on a color, then we can find a design that works without breaking any rules."

Erza couldn't help but smile back when Lucy did, pleased that she'd made her friend happy. Although this entire situation was beyond awkward for her, the last thing she wanted was for Lucy to be upset. They were friends, above all else, after all.
"A color, hmm..." Erza continued to look through. "I'd rather not have green, unless it's a brighter sort of green." A sigh, and then a somewhat self-deprecating smile. "I'm afraid I'll look like a Christmas tree."

Quite the opposite of upset Lucy was positively beaming. While certainly things were a bit awkwarder than she would have liked, and she was nowhere near as smooth as she would have wanted to be which made her exactly the same as every other teenager with a crush, it still seemed like everything was going really well
