WELCOME TO OUR OOC CLASS LOG!

How this will work, is that professors who wish to hold an OOC log post a thread for each year of their classes, labeled with the year and class. Then, students reply and we carry out one of our OOC logs. For examples of how our OOC logs are carried out, please go hereIf you find that events are carried out in the ( Read more... )

Dean is almost ten minutes late to the 6th year class. He is visibly, visibly hungover. Soooo not feeling this whole professor thing. He introduces himself, leaving off with the fact that he murdered a Ministry official. Any questions? Good because I'm not answering them.

Today we're learning the tools of the trade. He produces a tarp out of nowhere and rolls it out across his desk, revealing various items not normally used by wizards.

Sawed-off shotgun. Rock salt. Holy water. A .45 caliber Colt, a Smith and Wesson, among other one-handed guns. Chalk. Various shell casings. Various knives, some of them silver. An EMF reader, though it is mostly useless here, he explains. He spends the class explaining the use of each item, spending much of the time lovingly explaining the guns.

Sulu is unimpressed with all these guns. He asks about katanas.

Dean is INTRIGUED. He has honestly never thought about using a katana on something before.

From what he understands though, they're rather unwieldy and might not be quick enough to do the job. Sulu is free to correct him, Dean could talk about weapons all FREAKING DAY.

Sulu looks outraged. Unwieldy?!

Look, just because they require a little precision and grace doesn't make them unwiedly. They are actually very effective if you've been trained properly.

Dean puts his hands up defensively (but very good-naturedly. He can relate to being very attached to weapons). Hey, man, I didn't mean to offend. I'm just saying, smaller knives tend to be more effective in my experience. You're welcome to bring your katana and use that though, when we start practicing. You can prove me wrong.

Where'd you learn to use that thing anyway?

Crap. Sulu remembers belatedly that he's talking to a professor. Crap. Oh well, at least Dean doesn't look displeased. SAFE.

Sulu points out that smaller knives require closer proximity and provide less defensive ability than a sword. But personal preference and all. He sounds grudging. Katanas are awesome.

Oh, he used to fence, Sulu tells him serenely. The things you learn...

That's true. Dean prefers closer combat, though, and there have been times when a small concealed knife has saved his life. But yeah, kid has a point.

Dean's super serious about Sulu bringing a katana now, by the way. He'd love to see one in action, maybe even learn a bit about it. You can never have enough weapons.

Also, isn't fencing like. What Zoro does? Dean somehow cannot bring something so pansy-looking as fencing and something as badass-looking as katanas together in his brain.

Sulu's going to have to write home for it, but he'll give a demonstration. Not that he really knows how he's supposed to do that.

Hey, don't knock fencing, man. Zoro was pretty badass, okay?

Guns?

He may use a gunblade, but color him unimpressed. Why is he getting the feeling this class is totally lacking?

When a gun saves his scrawny ass, Dean says sternly, then maybe he would feel a bit differently. >:|

But probably not, he thinks to himself. Fuckin' wizards.

He prefers things up close and personal. When he needs to go long range, that's what his wand is for.

He gestures to his array of knives for "up close and personal." As for your wand, well, that's fine if you want. But someday you might meet a spirit who'll snap that flimsy thing in half and on that day, you might want a half dozen shells packed with rock salt to send that mother packing before he plucks out your eyeballs.

But if it's a spirit, how could something solid affect it? Better yet, how can it affect something solid.

Your logic, it is flawed.

Oh, so. You think you know more than me? About what I've been doing my entire life?
