Leia and Jaina [closed] youdontgotdbuns January 13 2010, 09:30:18 UTC
Leia paid little attention to her surroundings on the walk from her new quarters to the Entrance Hall, mind focussed on something a little more important then finding her way about the castle.

Considering the last time her daughter had had difficulty with her French and actually been willing to mention that to Leia, the woman placed Jaina at around thirteen.

"Only four years ago," she murmured. Just after she'd left the Confederation and received an internal promotion at the Ministry - and of course Jaina had paid attention to that, because a promotion meant more work meant more time away from home.

A lot could change in four years. A lot had changed in four years. Leia had two choices before her right now; to go along with Jaina's current belief that she had been unaffected by the spell and enjoy the first pleasant week with her daughter seemingly in forever, or to explain at least some of the situation and hope she didn't find out any of the other circumstances surrounding Leia's sudden career change ( ... )

Jaina fidgeted somewhat nervously as she made her way down to the entrance hall of the school, a few fingers toying with the small braid she had woven into her hair in order to impress her mother. It had been a while since Jaina had seen Leia, a few months at best, seeing as Leia had had to miss the Solo family holidays due to being cooped up working in France.

She had to fight down the flutter of excitement that was growing, she wanted her mom to think she was a mature and responsible, not a little kid. I mean, she was thirteen now, and that was practically an adult.

Still, when she saw her mom standing there, after so long, Jaina couldn't help the large smile that formed on her face, "Mom!"

Leia was startled out of her thoughts at the sound of slightly higher and certainly more cheerful - but still recognisable - voice. Thankfully she hadn't quite been facing the direction Jaina had come from, so the flicker of surprise and then sorrow was missed by her daughter.

She turned to face the girl, and years of diplomatic training kept her from gasping at the sight. Her gentle smile remained steady as she took in the sight of a thirteen year old Jaina, with a once-meticulous braid now messed from too many worrying fingers and a wide grin to greet her. Her heart ached, but she hid it easily. "Nice to see you too, Jaina," she laughed, enfolding her daughter in a hug like she hadn't been able to in over a year. She pulled back to inspect her after a moment. "You're looking well. I like what you've done with your hair."

"Mo-ohm," Jaina groaned at the hug as she returned it with just as much enthusiasm, looking around, "People will see," she muttered, a faint blush dusting over the tops of her cheeks.

She looked away nervously when Leia pulled away, a hand yet again going to fiddle with it, "Oh, thanks. I, um, I wanted to try something new, and I remember looking at that old picture of you and dad and Uncle Luke and Uncle Chewie when you gave them those awards-"

Jaina cut herself off, she was embarrassing herself now. She looked up, this time with the trademark Solo stubbornness in her eyes, portraying how she wasn't going to drop this subject easily, "So why did you quit? I thought you were doing important work with the Ministry?"

"Oh, am I embarrassing you?" Leia asked lightly, not letting go at all. She would be lucky if Jaina even let her get close enough to speak to her once this was all over, let alone hug her, so she was taking advantage of this while she could.

"Those old things? You've done a good job, if you only had a couple of grainy photos to work from." She smoothed a hand over her daughter's hair, settling down some of the places where it had popped out of the braid. "If you want, I can show you how to do a couple of other styles. Just in case you ever wanted to try something new again." Her smiling widened slightly, teasing.

She stepped back properly this time. "My quarters are down this way. How about we go and get comfortable first, and then I'll explain everything?"

"A little," she admitted truthfully, before launching herself at Leia again for another tight hug, "But I guess it's okay. I haven't seen you since before Christmas, you know." She said with more than a little reproach in her tone.

"Oh, no, this is fine," Jaina said, her cheeks positively burning now. Despite the braid, Jaina often was more fond of doing things the simple, practical way as opposed to the more elaborate and intricate style of her mother.

"That sounds good," Jaina said, leading the way as they went to her mother's office, oblivious to the sadder emotions her mother was experiencing.

Leia was startled into a laugh as Jaina launched herself at her. "I know," she replied, a little sadly. "I'm sorry for that, more than I can say. It's part of the reason I'm here now, though. Hopefully we can spend some more time together."

She laughed again. "I thought you might say that," she admitted. Her daughter never had been into those interests considered more 'feminine', and remembering how much she herself had loathed being everyone's dress up doll as a child, Leia hadn't pushed the matter.

She began to follow Jaina, right up until she realised that the girl was heading towards the staff offices. "I thought it might be a little more comfortable if we had somewhere to sit that was actually designed for the human body," she said. "My living quarters are really much more comfortable, although if you wanted to go to my office, we could certainly do that."

"If you say so, but don't come back here when you're doing important stuff just because you feel bad for me or anything!" Jaina replied quickly, shame filling her for a moment as she thought about how bad it would be if her mom was pulled away from serious muggle/wizarding issues because she thought Jaina couldn't handle being on her own at school. She could! She really could, it was just...

Well. She did miss Jacen sometimes. Even if his jokes were bad. And Anankin, even if he could be a bit of a brat. And Dad. She definitely missed Dad-

Jaina quickly groaned. She was supposed to be mature now, not whining for mom.

Her thoughts were interuptted when she heard her mother's voice behind her, and she froze at the correction.

"I...I knew that!" She stammered quickly, abruptly turning around and walking the other way, "I just got distracted," she admitted sheepishly before heading towards the staff quarters, "And no way! Let's check out your rooms, I'm sure they're amazing!"

Right at that moment, Leia wanted nothing more than to gather her daughter up and hide her away from the world. But she had tried that before, and it never worked; there was no escaping the world, she knew all too well. "I would say that family comes fairly high under the 'important stuff' category, wouldn't you?" she said softly. So much could have been averted if she had realised that when Jaina really was this age.

She laughed to cover the sad train of thought her mind had gone off on. "In a place like this? I imagine that would be easy to do. I don't know about amazing, I only just arrived after all."

It was soon after that they reached the simple door with the golden plaque informing her that this was the entrance to her quarters. "Here we are," she said needlessly, pushing the door open and gesturing for Jaina to follow her.

She wouldn't be surprised if her daughter happened to recognise the place. It wasn't an exact replica of their own house - much less chaos, without Han and the remnants of the children's presence there - ( ... )

"I guess," Jaina admitted slowly as they continued walking, before sighing, "But it's not just our family that's important either. I know a lot of muggles have problems because of dark wizard attacks and the schools are still full of hazing for those that aren't purebloods and-"

She cut herself off. Her mom knew all this already.

"Mom, this place has tons of amazing rooms," Jaina explained somewhat impatiently, "I mean, they have nothing on the summer house in France, but still. They're pretty, I guess." She said, flushing a little.

Jaina followed her mother's lead, her mouth breaking into a wide, lopsided grin, "Mom! It's set up just like our flat in London!" She declared, the pangs of homesickness abating slightly.

Leia watched fondly as Jaina pointed out the similarity, shutting the door quietly behind them. "I was feeling a little nostalgic," she admitted. "You can come and visit any time you want, you know. Even if I'm not here."

She nodded at the nearby couch for her daughter to sit down, doing so herself. "Now. I can guess that you've heard about this potion that's affected a great deal of the school?" she asked, having come to her decision. There was no way she could simply pretend that nothing had changed - if nothing else, Jaina would have her own photos and belongings from beyond the age of thirteen. She wasn't stupid, she would figure it out.

"I guess so," Jaina said her smile fading slightly but still remaining in place as she absently ran her hands along the sofa before sitting down on it. "Mom, I'm not going to come to your quarters when you're not here," she said crossly, "I have my own room now."

Jaina took in her mother's question, "Yeah, the crumpets or whatever they were. Although, one of the new professors says that it's like kids' week or something," a shrewd look crossed over her face. Jaina was always one for solving things in the most practical of matters, "I wonder why there'd be two conflicting stories though..."

"You do," Leia agreed calmly. "But the offer's there anyway, if you wanted to take advantage of it. Of course, I'd prefer it if you visited while I was here, though." Unlikely, but she wanted to get in as much as she possibly could while Jaina was still speaking to her. Maybe some of it, at least, would make an impression on the girl when she returned to her usual age ( ... )

"I'll make a note of it," Jaina said reasonably before rolling her eyes, "It's not visiting if you're not here," she said simply and matter of factly, but she knew that her mom would know that Jaina meant that of course she was going to visit!! What kind of daughter did she think she was?

"That's probably the best idea. I know I ran into a little boy named Yuugi earlier who was definitely unsure of what was going on," Jaina said, seeing her mother's reason and agreeing with it. However, her shrewd expression fell dangerously into the 'slack-jawed' category at her mother's explanation.

"I'm...I'm sixteen?!" She said breathlessly, her eyes widening before she began to fidget with her hair in a nervous manner. While she was a little excited, after all, what thirteen year old girl didn't dream of being all grown up and sixteen- she was mostly...scared. Three years ( ... )

Leia could almost read the thoughts directly off Jaina's face - how ludicrous she thought the idea of not visiting her mother was. She couldn't help but smile slightly at how earnest her daughter at thirteen - and wish that she had been able to remain like that, although she stopped the latter from showing on her face ( ... )

Jaina's face felt like fire after her mother's compliment, and she rolled her eyes and managed a groan despite the fact that her cheeks were as red as a turnip, "Moooooom."

She was oblivious to her mother's emotional turmoil, and instead merely gave a small tsk of disapproval, "He probably wasn't wearing a coat or something, boys," she said even though there was the slightest bit of worry about her. She didn't like the fact that her baby brother was ill enough to miss school. He'd have a ton of homework to catch up on when he returned!

But then again, it was Anakin. He was definitely the genius of the family.

Jaina paused, staring at the photograph for a few more seconds before she was reminded of something. She looked away from her future family and faced her mother, "Hey mom, you're..." she began to fiddle with her hair again, "You're not here to spy on me, are you?"

Stupid Kirk and his stupid ideas.
