Reno had been looking forward to reuniting with his best friend. Though, at the same time, he was a little apprehensive about how troubled Ren came across over their journal conversation. The guy was pretty damn laidback, so knowing something was bothering him meant it must've been pretty serious.

A smile came across Reno's face as he caught sight of Ren, and he hurried over, bag slung over his shoulder clanging with what was (almost) obviously liquid gold- er, beer.

"What's cookin', good lookin'?" he greeted, swinging said bag around and onto the ground at their feet.

He could hear the sound of the bottles that he was carrying long before Reno actually spoke up so he turned around before he heard that ridiculous greeting. “Ah, now that’s a sight I enjoy,” Ren grinned, “Reno with beer.” It wasn’t a rare sight, Reno was half Irish for god’s sake, but it was one that Ren never tired of.

Once the bag hit the ground, Ren opened it to grab two bottles, handing one to the redhead. “Do you actually use those lines when picking up girls?” Ren asked, slightly amused, “Because if you do, I have to wonder what idiots you sleep around with.” Although Ren couldn’t complain, he had his share of really dumb girls in the past but at the same time, he never tried to pick one up like that.

"Heh, don't I know it." Reno chuckled at Ren's comment as he took the bottle, though the follow-through had his cheerful grin warp into a mocking scowl. He tsked, shaking his head reproachfully. "Give me a little credit, would ya? Though, you'd actually be surprised at what does work."

He too a swig of his beer, letting out a satisfied sigh before speaking up again, "So," he started, finally sitting down next to the fellow Gryffindor. "What's up?" he figured he'd leave it open, leaving it up to Ren whether to delve into his woes straight away or start off with smalltalk.

Snapping off the bottle cap, Ren drank from his own beer and flicked the remains of his cigarette on the ground. Leave it to the Irish guy to know which beer was good. “Let me guess, you know what works and what doesn’t because you used every pick up line in the book?” He asked with a grin. Ren’s pretty sure he heard most of them, from the classic ‘did it hurt when you fell from heaven?’ to ‘You look like my third wife… and I’ve only been married twice.’ For some reason the angel ones worked which Ren thought was ridiculous ( ... )

"There's a book?" Reno scratched his head curiously, though it was unclear whether he was serious about the inquisition. In all likelihood he was just playing the fool, again. "It's like an art, y'know. Reading the girlies, trying to figure out which line would work on who... though some never fail."

The redhead rolled his eyes knowingly at the news that Cid's attempted spell backfired once again, but that was all but forgotten at the mention of the boys' dorms being locked to girls. He gaped, hand raised in a c'moooon sort of gesture. "Are you serious? Well that's just friggin' faaantastic." a huff followed, and he pouted, morosely downing a good part of his bottle before leaning back on the palm of his hand. "How about the girls' dorms? Is it the same sort of deal?" what a drag.

“Not exactly but, you know the muggle world as well as I do and it’s bound to be somewhere on the internet along with everything else,” He responded simply. He was used to Reno’s fool act just as he was able to tell when Ren was joking or telling the truth about something. In the end, it just confused everyone else. “You know, I never figured you for a guy with an interest in anything remotely artistic ( ... )

"Aren't we lucky to get the best of both worlds," Reno mused, more of an offhand comment than anything. Glancing at his best friend from the corner of his eye he grinned crookedly, "Oh you know I'm just full of surprises." okay so maybe that was a bit of a lie, especially in reference to him and Ren. And to be honest, he wasn't much of an art connoisseur... at all. The best he could say was that he liked artists for their... creativity? Yeah, something like that.

"You're to blame for this?!" he gaped, aghast at the thought. Then again that did deserve some sort of congratula-waitwhat-"Catty?!" he nearly dropped his beer at the notion. Just how much had he missed while he was away? "You slept with- You're with... Catty?!" it probably shouldn't have come as that much of a surprise, and he did have a hunch about the two of them prior to his vacation, but...

Ren laughed a bit at this. He enjoyed technology as much as the next muggle and he was certain that when he got access onto a computer any time soon, his email will likely explode on him from not being checked for months on end. And Ren knew Reno could appreciate some arts. Music and film mostly and the former was only because Ren himself forced it upon him at an early age and…yeah, creativity was definitely one way of looking at it ( ... )

Oh yes, Reno could definitely say he enjoyed some arts. What that meant he left up to the imagination of the interpreter, however. In all seriousness, though, he appreciated Ren's skill in musicianship, even if it was admittedly because he originally had no choice in the matter.

"Pffft, Kono. That kid..." Reno drifted off into a slight chuckle before returning to the news of Ren and Catty's blossomed relationship. He shrugged, "I guess I had a hunch." while yes, he was around to enjoy Jim's party, he didn't spend much time paying attention to whatever shenanigans Ren was up to, or anyone in particular, really. As for the paint incident, well, it was Catty. He doubted she'd hesitate to do such a thing to anyone. "No, I'd say it's more of a hell-froze-over because I didn't notice. Or something. Anyway, congratulations?" he grinned, finishing his beer quickly, "She's quite the catch."

Ren knew Reno was grateful that he gave him no choice in the matters of certain music. He had good taste for the most part and Reno frequently joined him at some after parties that he attended with a few friends who were in bands together so, even if Reno didn’t like the music, he could appreciate the groupies.

“Yeah, thanks,” He said, looking away, “She’s something else.” Talking about her reminded him that she hadn’t left her room all day and also of his conversation with Chris a few hours ago. He still thought it was all complete bullshit, what he was told today but with nothing to confirm it, it was just nagging in his head of the actual truth behind it. He wasn’t gonna let the words of a dead drama whore affect him too much but, it was the waiting till Catty came back out that was killing him right now.

"Tell me about it." Reno let out a sigh, though it was obvious he approved of her as girlfriend material.

He wasn't blind to that forlorn look Ren currently wore. That, paired with the fact that he had called him out to speak with him for more than just catching up, made it all too obvious that Catty made up at least part of his friend's issues.

Reno leaned heavily on the palm of his hand, elbow resting on his thigh. Here was as good a time as any to bring whatever it was up. "So what's on your mind?"

It was a good thing Reno approved. Although Ren never really had a girlfriend that was disapproved by his friends, it was always good to have that confirmation that he had good taste.

He was wondering how long it would take before Reno would question him on it. It was weird for him to get bothered by anything because he was so relaxed and this he was certain showed there was something on his mind. “Way too much that needs to be kept confidential till I know what’s going on.” He wasn’t gonna say everything. Ren didn’t want to hurt Catty by talking about her problems when she wasn't around and, despite it being confidential between the two of them, you never know who was listening and words tend to travel fast around the school.

“Here’s the gist though,” Ren said, because there was enough that he could tell Reno to just give a brief explanation and let him fill in all the rest, “at the masquerade party Catty’s ex showed up. And the guy’s dead.”
