Daryan had expected an explosion, yes. But honestly, it was not as bad as he had thought it would be-- yet. From what Alphonse had told him, Edward had quite the temper. "Edward, calm down. There is nothing to be upset about." He folded his arms, heaving a sigh as he stepped between the brothers. "Your brother is just looking to help you."
His fury was like a volcanic eruption. "I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS! I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU! I DO NOT NEED A COUNSELOR!" Edward screamed at Al. "WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU THINK THIS? JUST WHAT MAKES YOU THINK I NEED THIS? YOU KNOW I DON'T WANT TO BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T EVEN TELL ME WHAT YOU WERE UP TO. YOU MANIPULATIVE BASTARD!"
"Because you DO need it," Al glared at him. "Even if you don't want to admit it! You need to talk to SOMEONE, Brother, even if it's not me. You just... keep burying stuff inside of you instead of dealing with it, and someday you're really going to explode. I don't know if I'll be able to save you when it does," the last part was said quieter.
"I didn't tell you because then you wouldn't have come at all, and I wanted to at least try."
"Edward. Enough." He spoke suddenly, interrupting the sibling bickering. Daryan was no longer smiling, but instead glaring daggers between the two boys. "I thought that you were the older brother, Edward, but your display tells me otherwise. Your brother did the right thing by coming to me. It isn't healthy to bottle up all your feelings, emotions, and thoughts." He stepped back, sitting on his desk. "If you continue to do so, you may hurt someone close to you without realizing it."
Edward glared back, he wasn't going to be intimidated. His automail fist balled up on his armrest. "This is a fucking joke. I don't need this...I hate this talking crap."
He turned to Al. "Just wait until I get you outside, you'd better hope you can still outrun your brother." He turned away, pointedly ignoring Al.
Tearing his gaze from the brothers, Daryan bit back a smirk. "I want you to stay for the remainder of the session, Edward. Just try it." He paused, pointedly. "For your brother." Sliding off the desk, Daryan took back the book he had loaned to Edward. "If you don't want to return after that then, by all means, don't."
Al held back the urge to comfort his brother. Ed obviously needed it, but it wasn't going to help anything right now, at least not from him. At least Ed wasn't walking out. Even if he thought he didn't, he DID have that choice. At this point, Al was taking it as a victory that Ed was still there.
It was progress, Daryan mused. Edward didn't up and leave, after all. He smiled. "Mm. Now, Edward, I understand that you do not like to ... open up. You do not share your thoughts, &your feelings, with your brother." He paused, looking directly at Edward; his smile fading. "Or anybody, for that matter. Why, ..? Is it because you feel the need to keep up the tough facade- Or do you think that sharing these things would make you weak in the eyes of others-- ?"
Edward frowned at the question. "There's nothing wrong with me. I don't have anything to say about anything." He twitched at the idea of a tough facade. "I'm the older brother and Al is younger and he doesn't need to deal with this stuff, whatever it is. It isn't necessary, I'm not someone to worry about."
"I know that you feel the need to protect your brother from everything, but he is a very capable young man. He seems to be able to deal with his emotions in a far more mature manner to boot." Daryan smirked, gazing from Alphonse to Edward. "Tell me then, Edward, how do you normally vent. You can't honestly expect me to believe you bottle everything up. If that were the case, you would have lost your mind long ago. Do you write- scream- spar- Tell me."
"Yeah, that's right," Al said thoughtfully. "It's been a long time, though. Sometimes Brother and I practice our fighting with each other too, but we don't do that at school anymore usually because the teachers here don't like it."
Al understood this, but he didn't necessarily agree with it. It had kept them in shape and ready for anything, and it wasn't like they ever really hurt each other. Bumps and bruises, sure, but nothing serious. There were lines that they never crossed because they cared about each other so much.
Interesting. Biting back a smirk, Daryan rose from his chair. He looked between the two boys. "Just so I understand- both of you used to spar." Pausing, Daryan turned around to think. "But some of the Staff complained about it, because they thought that you would hurt one another. This is correct, ..?" It wasn't so much a question, more than Daryan going over the facts, aloud. Turning around, he set both his hands on the desk, leaning toward the boys. "That's stupid. Fighting, or rather, sparring, is an excellent way to relieve tension. You know, maybe we could arrange something. It would, after all, help the three of us." He grinned. "But, it would be up to the both of you."

"What do I have to do for you to let me go?"

"You've yet to beat me, I'm not that worried," he muttered.
