As Deputy Chair of the Board, Mrs. Vincentius has already informed you all, the matter of the chaos that infested the school has been resolved, and all effects will be resolved over the next few days.
What we believe occurred is that, as a site of complex and concentrated magical energy, Hogwarts was subject to the rising of some conflicting energies. This is only multiplied by the intense emotional energy of so many people gathered in one place, with some theories indicating that teenagers might be especially susceptible. These energies were so intensely charged, that we believe a mis-cast spell triggered a chain reaction, which conflicted with the magical properties of the mirrors. As a result, the mirrors shattered, and the energy that had accumulated resulted in the mass pandemonium that you all witnessed or, worse still, were subjected to.
There are some instances with similar effects that were uncovered that have previously occurred at the school, through the Board's research. Through these records we were able to find the appropriate spells to re-contain the magic of each mirror, restoring them to their proper place and neutralising the conflicting energies.
We have looked into the possibility of relocating the mirrors so that such a chain effect can be avoided in the future. Unfortunately, all past efforts, and current ones, to relocate and separate the mirrors have lead to them all being bought back to their home in the hall, by the castle itself.
