[Background]
Not much is known about Saki’s past, other than that at one point she met the information broker Izaya Orihara and developed a fanatic devotion to him. This, a year before the start of the series, led her to meet Masaomi Kida, leader of the gang Yellow Scarves. Her job was to get him to like her, so that he could become Izaya’s pawn-and it worked all too well. The two started dating, and thanks to her advice, Kida began to rely on Izaya for information, seeing as how the Yellow Scarves had been doing poorly against their rivals, the Blue Squares. However, with Izaya’s help, the tables turned.
-And then everything fell apart with a new order for Saki: go to the Blue Squares’ leader and allow herself to be tortured. As usual, she obeyed without question, despite the danger she was placing herself in. Needless to say, once the leader had Saki in his hand, he called Kida over to try and ‘save’ her in what was clearly a trap. While Izaya’s plan continued to go flawlessly, there was one hitch to the Blue Squares’-Kida didn’t come. Oh, he certainly tried, but the moment he arrived, he froze in fear. Thus, defectors of the Blue Squares, who morally didn’t approve of her torture, had to save Saki instead. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was in a coma. Eventually, she woke up, but due to the damage in her legs, she was unable to walk.
At least, that was the lie Izaya told her to carry out, in order to strengthen Kida’s guilt of not saving her. As a result, Saki became Kida’s ‘god’: the girl who almost died because of him-the symbol of guilt he could never run away from.
[Personality]
Saki is, for the most part, a quirky and perpetually smiling girl. She’s not necessarily a bubbly or energetic person, but she sometimes says the oddest things, and it’s rare to see anything but a smile on her face. Very little seems to ruffle her. Things that might make others awkward, she can say with a completely straight face, such as when Kida asks her if they’re dating-she cheerfully replies, “I don’t know.” She has no problems with admitting that she’s unhealthily devoted to Izaya or that she has no intention of changing that-even Kida’s visits to her in the hospital don’t make her uncomfortable. Neither does the fact that he flirts with other girls, as she’s convinced that he’ll always love her the most and therefore come back to her. I mean, Izaya said so. She simply continues to smile as though nothing were wrong.
And in that sense, she can be somewhat callous, as she can say things no one else would be willing to say. She knows how much guilt she brings Kida, and under Izaya’s orders, she is perfectly fine with guilt-tripping him even more or asking things that make him uneasy. She knows what Izaya’s plots entail, like manipulating Kida, and yet she goes along with them anyway.
After all, her entire world revolves around the man. He’s amazing, he’s always right-he’s a cold-hearted jerk who doesn’t give a damn about her and she doesn’t care at all. She explicitly admits that if he told her to jump off a cliff, she’d obey. She’s well aware that it’s a flaw, but, again, she doesn’t care. Ultimately, though, there is one thing that could make her disobey Izaya: Kida, as she genuinely does love him.
Altogether, Saki doesn’t seem to think much of herself. Anyone with a decent sense of self-worth wouldn’t listen to Izaya’s every word or potentially get herself killed just for him-all of which Saki, well, does. Additionally, she seems surprised when Kida says that he’ll help fix her flaw, as if she hadn’t expected anyone to care enough to bother. And, despite her commenting before that he loved her, she also appears honestly surprised when Kida tells her that he really does love her. Overall, she’s very mentally reliant on others.
[Specialties/Abilities]
None, really, unless you count infinite patience. She’s an ordinary girl.
[Affection] As said, Saki's pretty nonchalant, so she won't really care. She's sort-of-taken by Kida, though~
[Fighting] Fffffft, Saki can't fight at all. You're free to hurt her, though. Preferably no killing without permission. o/
[Other Permissions] Anything is a go.
[Other Facts]
Her given name, Saki, is short for Sarasoujuu (sal tree), the Buddhist symbol of vicissitudes.
