COVER EVOLUTION

Aug 03, 2011 17:54

I DID IT AGAIN.

My hobby is to torture myself.

From some out-there-like-Pluto intuition, my starky grey brain cells tricked me into making a let's-take-the-level-up-to-effing-eleven detailed cover. No, that's not a reference to the current Doctor. This book stars Nine though! Whoot! Me loves the Nine. As expected, this took too much time. Can't possibly finish the HTTYD book now. Well, the deed is done. Suck it up and face it like a man, Jamie. At least finish one book, mate. YOU CAN DO IT YOU CAN DO IT.

Evolution of a cover, starting with line art.
The short comics I've been producing since last year uses a weird size format.
It's a pain in making but still looks badass so I put up with it.

Initial matte colours set the tone of the whole image. Prone to change due process.

Starting from the backgrounds. Having too much fun with the Slithereen made it too late to realize I'd just tightened the noose around my neck. When it comes to filming(yeah, drawing equals filming to me. It's the only way I can describe it. Everything is in constant motion in my head, so I film it on paper. Got it?), I'm an Akira Kurosawa believer okay?
Probably considered secondary lighting for the first time.

Keeping the level up to eleven.

Sitting back with the Judoon to eyeball the whole thing.
Give me an alien to draw any time, bro.

Final rendition. Sho-jah doo-roh!
