[From her room:]

Yes, I'm in here. Shall I come down?

Sure, if you're not busy I got a present for you.

[Comes down.]

[He'll hand over the package. Just ignore the power pack and large taser on his hip.]

I got made something for you.

Glados has automated sentries and our pet is a tank, so I didn't want you to feel left out.

[She smiles quite warmly.] Ah, very interesting!

[She carefully and a little awkwardly unwraps it. It takes a while.]

By the way, do you have any idea how to battle a telepath?

Find their range and act outside it.

If you can't do that, test their limits. The human brain can only take so much stimulus, overwhelm it. Out number him and overwhelm them with thoughts.

Or be annoying and have a large number of people think the same annoying song over and over again.

[In the box is an awkward looking taser. The case looks to be a remote control of all things and it's a little heavier than a typical one.

Also there is a nob on it with numbers 0 through 3 for settings.]

It's a special taser since this town seems to be full of special people.

totally typoed 'taster' several times. 'toaster' is next cramschoolgod April 18 2011, 23:34:21 UTC
Hmm, yes. [She nods at those ideas.] I imagine robots might be immune, too.

[She lifts the remote control/taser with a slight effort, not expecting it to be as heavy as it is.]

Ah, yes, you mentioned this! Thank you very much, Robo. [She bows her head in a polite way.] Does 0 mean off, or -- perhaps you should show me how to use it first.

Yeah, but unless you know an actual robot like our Tachikoma you may be out of luck.

[He points to the nob.]

0 is actually base state. You can't really shut off the battery I made, which is where most of the weight comes from.

You see those two metal prongs near the tip? Touch those to the target and press hard on the edge here here the button is.

That should stun your average sized adult, might knock a kid right out.

One allows more of a charge to flow through it, that will knock a human out and might stop their heart. That should work on some of the non humans and larger people.

Two can kill a Clydesdale, so be sure you be careful who you hit with it.

Three over charges the circuits. It's explosion could have killed a gathering of people in a 20 foot radius and knocked out all electrical devices in 20 yards. You got a few seconds to throw it if you accidentally turn it to three.

Okay, never mind. Forget there is a three.

Here, give that back real quick.

[He's getting out the electrical tape.]

--ah--...! [NO WAIT]

You--don't think I'm so foolish as to use that unless absolutely necessary, do you, Robo? I don't experiment with things that are one-use only. Unless I have multiple copies of them.

In fact, I'm unlikely to use this myself unless needed -- I'm aware of the dangers involved, and, ah, there might come a time when it was necessary and I couldn't jury-rig it to explode quickly enough, whereas if I did want to explode it without that setting for some reason I could always short-circuit it to a battery and --

Not that I would do that, either, of course!

[That's a little anxious, if logical, answer. Still.

Hand out to take it back if she gives it.]

I can't remove the setting, I'm just making it a lot harder to accidentally switch to the setting.

Don't think of it like me not trusting you, think of it like I don't trust your ability to outrun the explosion.

--Right.

Yes. That makes sense.

[Hands it back, with a little extra firmness to make up for her little lapse.]

[Yeah, but he's watching her now.

The fix? He wraps electrical tape several times around the device. It covers #3 and she'd have to put a lot of effort into turning the knob to force the pointer under the tape.

It's still there... it can still be turned if she peels off the tape too.]

There, just pretend it doesn't have a "three".

[She clears her throat and looks very serious indeed.]

Very well. Thank you again for the gift, Robo.

Of course, everyone in this house should be able to defend themselves.

[Still, he's a bit iffy about how eager she was. Time to do the dad thing, he never had the chance before.]

Ever been electrocuted to death?

cramschoolgod April 19 2011, 01:57:23 UTC
...Well, that's a strange question to ask. No, but then again, the use of electricity in executions is falling out of favor as it is believed to be inhumane by some, so the primary chance is with high voltage cables and poor decisions.
