At work today I discovered that I have a reputation, something that puzzles me seeing that I've been trying to keep a relatively low profile since high school. A co worker, knew who I was, even knew where I lived. She only knew by reputation, didn't even learn my name till today. I was able to get a ride home from her though. Speaking of reputation, I think it comes from being mentioned. For example I was mentioned on my older brother's Blog today. That reminded me that I too have a blog, and that i should update the damned thing.
I'll begin with a recap of what my mother has dubbed "Geek Fest"
Wednesday, and Thursday: I left work with my bag, that contained everything I would need for next few days. The plan was to go to Sarah's place, and stay the night there so that we could leave together. Thursday morning, Sarah and I got ourselves to the city to take our bus to Baltimore.
To prepare for the long ride, I picked up a book that I've been missing, unfortunately the bus was way to shaky for me to get any reading done, so I quickly fell asleep. While somewhere in New jersey we called a friend who was in charge of the room to discover that she was actually running late. This gave us about 2-3 hours to wait.
Arriving in Baltimore, I noticed that several restaurants on the same street had "New York" I wondered if New York Fried Chicken tasted any better than the chicken that supposedly came from Kentucky? I didn't have the courage to find out. Some times the truth can be too much. We took a cab to the convention center, and decided to wait in line for Sarah's pass. Unlike me, she was smart enough to preorder them. The line itself was massive, but it went surprisingly fast. So fast that we still had a good two hours before the rest of our friends arrived. A storm hit, and we took shelter. While feeling from the torrential downpour we ran into James. He joined us for a while, but that was all I saw of him for the rest of the weekend.
We ended up getting to out hotel, and waiting there. Mustafa and Lyndon snuck up on us. Meaning that everybody was here and the room was all set. The rest of the night we hung out, and waited for Friday. We didn't drink, which was unfortunate seeing that a brought a bottle of whiskey. I wish somebody told me the room was non alcoholic ahead of time...
Friday: I was woken up by a guy named Hailee, who told me that we need to get in line early if we wanted our badges. We stepped out, and saw the line. At first it didn't look that bad. However turning the corner revealed a Japanese fanboy nightmare. A line that stretched around a few buildings and across a block, filled with nerds in strange costumes. We lucked out when we found Vlad, and his brother jimmy holding a place for us in line. 2 hours later we had our badges, and I retreated back to the room to bathe. However I forgot the room number, and knocked on another door, with a hand written do not disturb sign. A man stepped out of the room. He looked downward with squinty eyes, and he wore nothing but a blanket. This man proceeded to scold me in broken hung over English. While slightly intimating, I was tempted to knock again, maybe even kick the door. But my shower seemed more important then a great moment in douchebaggery. The rest of Friday was spent with Sarah, wandering the convention center, and for the most part having no idea of where we were going. the highlight of the day was a panel dedicated to terrible Japanese music videos...
Saturday: I left the room before Sarah to meet up with Matt who had arrived the night before.
Saturday was more wandering, but there were some neat moments. I got Sarah addicted to a scifi rhythm dance game, and she kicked my ass in street fighter. My pride was broken, but I was happy for her. We went to the artist alley. The artist alley is what it sounds like. An alley of artists. You buy a table, and sell prints of your work. You could also do sketches on the spot, or even put work up for auction. Some of the work is good, If I go this con next year. I'll make sure to grab a table and peddle my wares. I did a sketch of Sarah in her costume, and I think it came out wonderful. It was a shame I could have her pose longer. If I finished it would have looked even better. We wanted to go to a mock trial skit, but it was so over crowded we couldn't even enter the room. We wandered for the rest of the night, only to return to the room later. There's a dance on Saturday nights at these things, but we decided not to go.
Sunday: We all woke up, clean up. Packed, and went to spend our last few hours at the con.
I Did my shopping that day. Other than that nothing major happened. I must say I got neat stuff this year. Nunchaku, a knife, a collapsible baton, these neat leather wrist things, and two robot model kits. Not too bad of a haul.
The bus ride home was long, and I had the worst seat. right next to the bathroom with a broken door. So not only did I have to move when people needed to use it. I had to open the door for them because it would get stuck. When we got off the bus I took Sarah to the subway, and then got on my train. As usual the train ride home was long.
Recovering from Otakon wasn't too hard. I came home to mom's and went to dad's in the morning. Then everything was back to normal. Except one thing. Sarah and I had a bit of a fight. She thought that I cheated on her when we first started dating. I explained that I hooked up with said girl a good month or two before asking Sarah out. After a while I got the point across, but I felt hurt that she would think I'd cheat on her. I suppose I can't blame her though. I hang out with most of my ex girlfriend's still, so I could see why Sarah would worry.
I returned to work to discover that one of the idiots I work with, ruined a brush and pallet I left there. I don't under stand why we keep this guy around. It honestly takes one good clerk to run this place, and we had two before this douche showed up.
