Stereotyping =/= Racism

Jul 21, 2006 05:54

Stereotyping is using characteristics shared by many of a particular race usually for comedy. While it can be seen as tasteless, it is rarely intended to offend and people who use it generally do not think less of the people they make fun of than the people they don't (although most comedians I watch, when they make fun of one race they make fun of all the others just as much).

Racism, on the other hand, is the discrimination of one or several races. If you're a racist, you believe that they (another race or other races) are inferior to you and usually your race. Racists often use stereotype jokes in extreme amounts in hopes of offending the overly-sensitive (especially in this depratment) population of America today. Some just dislike a whole race while others go as far as becoming people that go around commiting murder or worse to any member of that race.

Everyting about the above applies to religions as well.

Get your facts straight and never confuse stereotyping with racism. Thank you for making America a better, less overly-sensitive place.
