Taken from Steph's journal. I just had to try it. :)
Dear Henry,
I'm not sure how to tell you this, but I'm going to join the monastery. I finally realized it when I saw the shrunken head outside of Chicago and I saw you carve your initials into my father. I'm sure you're high enough to realize how awful I've felt. I'm returning your memories from the military service, but I'll keep your collection of butterflies as a memory. You should also know that I always wanted to break our friendship.
In pain,
Stacey
...what. I wasn't sure who to address this to. So I chose [imaginary] Henry.
How about an update on my life in 2008?
What a great year! So much went on, I don't even know where to begin. I got a new car all by myself (well, my uncle was there, but he didn't really do anything) and it's in my name only. I bought studless snow tires in November, just to be prepared for Seattle weather. At the time, I was thinking that I would just get the tires so I could be safer in all of the wet weather around here, especially with my 26 mile commute to and from work... and so I could pay any visits to a certain someone in Bellingham if I were so inclined (which I am). What a smart move that was, considering the winter we've had so far! My car has been so dependable in the snow, thanks to my tires (and, quite honestly, my job).
I also got my braces off in February, after almost two years (for the second time) and jaw surgery.
And then there was my trip to Italy. What an experience! I went with a group of 15 people, myself and my cousin included. It was an art history tour, so we went to as many museums, churches, and sights as we could to see some of the most famous art pieces. We started out with 2 days in London, and then spent about a week each in Venice, Florence, and Rome, with a couple day trips to nearby cities, and one very enjoyable day at the beach...
But, perhaps more importantly, I met someone. Sam. He saw the advertisement for the tour, and on a whim decided to go. I'm not sure to think of our meeting as a coincidence, or if it was fate. With the exception of my cousin, Sam and I are the only ones that still see each other regularly after coming home, so that has to say something, right? I just can't get enough of him. He's so chill and easy-going, and is just an overall great guy. We even had a little date in Venice, wandering around St. Mark's Square with a bottle of wine, listening to and watching the open-air orchestras outside the cafes... How many people can say their first date was in Italy? Srsly. It's too bad he just moved 80+ miles away to Bellingham for school. Hopefully that saying "distance makes the heart grow fonder" will hold true in this situation. Although, I don't know if I could be more fond of this fella. ;)
Anyway, those were a few of my bigger 2008 highlights!
Whew.. time for bed!
