Well, it's been a little over a week since my surgery, so I thought I'd let y'all know how I'm doing!
So far, the recovery has been worse than my recovery from having jaw surgery, but still not as bad as I thought it would be. My surgery was scheduled at around 3 in the afternoon, so I had a couple hours to prepare myself for the surgery. When we got to the hospital, the nurse explained everything to my mom and me, and it was such a sigh of relief for me because she said the pain from the tonsillectomy would be like strep throat pain, and I had definitely been expecting worse. It's actually worse than strep throat, but it's still manageable (with the pain meds, of course). My nose has been an easier ordeal than my throat. My turbinates were trimmed to create more of an airway, and the tip of my septum was trimmed to help with the crookedness. And I have to say, it's easier to breathe and my nose isn't as crooked as it was.
The recovery process has definitely had it's downs. I've thrown up three times in a week, and it sucks. I threw up the first night, but that was expected because the blood that I swallowed during the surgery. A couple days later, I threw up again right after I ate some banana pudding. The last time I threw up was Thursday night, when I was starting to feel better. Friday night I was feeling super nauseous, but didn't throw up because my mom made me go to bed and sleep it off. I was so sad though, because that night was my 6 year old cousin's Christmas pageant, and my mom and little sister couldn't go because of me. I feel so bad about that. :(
Saturday I actually left the house to get our Christmas tree with my mom, so that was kinda fun. It was so cold, I had to hold a tissue over my nose to keep it warm, since it's still a little sensitive. I ate real food today, including hamburger helper and scrambled eggs, and it was so nice to have a full tummy! Tomorrow I'm hoping to go to work for a couple hours, then I have a follow-up appointment with my doctor so she can see how I'm healing.
So.. that's my post-surgery update!
