The soil mixture

Jul 28, 2008 11:14

I know, my third post. Sorry. I'm actually hoping to give the comm a kick start.

First, my cucumber plant didn't servive the move. So, no cucumbers for me. *sigh*

My garden is just stunted. And I don't know why. But I was wondering if it had to do with mixture.

I'm wondering if I put too much vermiculite in my soil. I didn't really even do the 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 thing. I just looked at the picture in the book and continued adding the ingredients until it looked like his picture. But, at the time, I remember thinking I had used too much vermiculit. I'm wondering if that is preventing my plants from taking off. Though, before the move, the cucmber plant was growing like crazy.

My husband is pretty much giving me the "I told you so," saying that gardening the old-fashioned way is the way to go. And seeing my neighbor's huge, fruitful, beautiful garden, I have to wonder. I mean, he used his own dirt, just mixed a little potting soil in. He is out there everyday working his butt off. And he is seeing mega results. While my garden just does nothing.

So, what do you think about my mixture question?

P.S. If there is still a mod here, I wish we could use tags. They'd be so helpful!
