Delta Rune

I finally played Delta Rune chapter one! I loved Delta Rune chapter one! It brought back all my Undertale feelings and evoked that same mix of delight + wonder + slight unease that the first game did.

Five-second plot/gameplay impressions before I go to bed:

[SPOILERS for Delta Rune ch 1]

- I found all four members of the Fun Gang really endearing (though I still don't feel like I have a good grasp of Kris -- but the interactions between our non-silent party members were super cute).

- RALSEI! I love him so so much. I don't care if he ends up being secretly evil, or tragic, or a developmentally-arrested phantom projection of Asriel or whatever, I just want him to be happy and have all the friends he could ever possibly want. <3333

- Speaking of Asriel, I'm going to cling to this universe where he seems to be alive and academically successful and surrounded by people who like him for as long as I can before canon pulls the rug out from under me. Until all the darkness that's hovering around the margins of the narrative becomes explicit text, I'm just going to assume that he is a kind-hearted, well-adjusted boy who is close with his sibling and making a lot of friends at college and on schedule to lead a long, happy life which Chara will not compromise in any way.

- The new battle system was fun! I'm not very good at it, but I liked figuring out how to balance my teammates' skill sets (while wishing frequently that I could bump Ralsei up in the team order so that he could heal me before the battle actually ended).

- I enjoyed all the details we learned from interacting with everyone in town, but my favorite bit was Alphys and her pet cat / saucers of milk that are disappearing so clearly there must be a cat drinking them and clearly that cat must be hers. (Alphyyys.)

And then there's the soundtrack! Current favorite tracks are probably:

Rude Buster
Field of Hopes and Dreams
Scarlet Forest
Lantern
Rouxls Kaard <-- the fact that this is only twenty seconds long is one of the great tragedies of my life (though fandom has already started obliging with extended remixes)

There's also a bunch of fan remixes out already, though they mostly seem to be sticking to pretty literal arrangements so far. I'm looking forward to a year from now when we start getting live orchestral performances and more liberal arrangements, but in the meanwhile, I like:

insaneintherain - Field of Hopes and Dreams Jazz Cover
Kamex - Field of Hopes and Dreams Remix
Kamex - Battle Theme Remix (Rude Buster)
Tsuko G - Battle Theme (Kazoo ver.)
NyxTheShield - Legend
