I got a Dali ticket!
I'm going to the Salvador Dali retrospective at the Philadelphia Museum of Art tonight! Oh, I'm so incredibly excited...it's been completely sold out and tickets are absolutely impossible to find. For example: on eBay, several pairs of tickets (that's right, just 2 tickets) are currently up to $182.50 and $162.50, respectively. That's $80 to $90 a ticket, and they originally cost $20 each. Ouch! I had resigned myself to missing the most complete show (and the only viewing in the U.S.) of one of my favorite Surrealists. (I also adore Magritte.)
But then!!! Through a series of extremely fortunate events, I managed to score a student ticket (originally $17) for only $25! My happiness truly knows no bounds. I still can't really believe that I'm going!!! I'm going to spend hours and hours in there - until they kick me out when it closes at 11 pm, probably. ^__^
Uh-oh, I already know I'm going to want to buy the catalogue (you know, that giant compendium always published by art museums for major exhibitions, detailing each item in the show). But for $48, that seems a bit much, considering I'm trying to save for grad school. Still, I do own one other catalogue, from the Egon Schiele retrospective at the MOMA and that was a truly unbelievable show (in many ways, he's my favorite artist). I still pick up the catalogue from time to time, and look through, marvelling at his genius and remembering what each drawing or painting looked like in real life. So maybe I should buy the catalogue for the Dali exhibit... On the other hand, I bet there will be second-hand copies aplenty eventually. Though I would probably need to wait at least a year or two to get one of those.
Oh for cripes sake, I should just get one already, and get rid of a bunch of other books that I never read anyway. Problem solved.
