If you don't mind, how did you end up attaching the basque flap to wear runway style? I was thinking a snap on the little curved flap but it looks like that's hanging free on yours.
Well, I took some creative liberties in fitting and finishing my jacket. In order for it to fit me in a flattering manner, I added some extra snaps where needed. I think that for true "runway style," yes, the little half-moon flap on the basque would snap to the front. (I also used extra-wide grosgrain, which was a departure from Galliano's original. I enjoyed being faithful to his pattern, but also making it my own with unique touches.)
^_^ It really is addictive...I'm already toying with the idea of making another one, and what fabrics I would use. I adore the red satin, but it makes the jacket even fancier than it already is. Now I'm thinking about cottons or twills, for a more "everyday" version, although I'm definitely happy that I went all-out on the first one.
Oh my goodness, I can't believe I'm talking about starting this craziness all over again!!
And in fact, that was the same suggestion that got me thinking about everyday materials! But I think that it would have to be verrry light-weight denim, in order for all the strange angles to come together neatly.
I like cathou's gray/blue/green twill a great deal. I was thinking about similar fabric, just more green (I'm in this big green phase right now - funny how we get obsessed with one colour).
