Pirate Jacket

I'm really starting to wish that I'd been documenting my progress of the Galliano jacket I'm sewing. I'll just have to start now ( Read more... )

Hey dood. (Which of your multiplicity of pseudonyms do you prefer?) I kind of wish I was documenting myself a little better too. All my nice pens are out of ink so I haven't even been keeping track in my real paper journal. And it's really too bad that I can't show you guys my work in progress ( ... )

I know, I should have named this journal "Tigralon" too, but I had a lapse of judgement.
I also wish I'd been taking notes and drawing sketches in my sewing journal! It almost makes me want to sew another, just to document it...almost, but not quite. :D
I can't wait to see the photos with the eyepatch. I've wanted to make one for a long time, so perhaps this will be the perfect excuse!

Isn't there something comforting about having the half-finished jacket sitting there, waiting for you to come spend time with it? I know that would sound weird to anyone not doing the project, but I bet you'll understand. You just glance over at it and know that when you have some free time, you can sit down and work through the next little step. I really wish I could find more projects like this - crazy, complicated, confusing, and really beautiful if you can ever finish them. We should start hunting for our next one! I'll be sad when this one ends...

Totally. That's one reason I would hate to be a designer the way it works in "real life", just drawing pictures and other people making clothes out of them. I like to know every inch of the things I make, because I've spent so much time with them.

Well, I doubt we'll ever find another pattern as intricate and challenging, so I say we design our own. If we can do this jacket we can do anything.

Totally! That is a great idea. I've been scouring the internet, trying to find another crazily complicated designer pattern, and of course with no luck.

But I love the idea of designing our own! Were you thinking that we pick another designer garment we loved and then with photos, try to recreate it without a pattern? That would be INSANE. I'm ready! (Well, if I ever finish this jacket.) ;)

Well, I was thinking we could come up with our own, but that might work too. I don't know, I guess it wouldn't be quite the same if we were working on different projects. But I've been looking at this and saying to myself, although it's tricky to sew, that's mostly because we can't see exactly what's going on in the pictures we have. I could totally make this jacket from scratch, now that I've seen how it's made--it's just a matter of establishing the lines. Does that make sense? So now I've got ideas coming out my ears of extremely complicated things I could make...

That makes perfect sense!

And if I weren't so busy, I would be having similar ideas of all the patterns I wanted to design now. (I'm moving to a new city and starting grad school in just a few months, so my life is basically being turned upside-down.) As it is, I'm struggling to find time to finish this jacket. I am determined to get it done within the next two weeks. (Famous last words.) ;)
