He thinks, really, that it had been fairly easy to fall in love. It had taken a long time to realize it sure, but that wasn't really difficult per se. No, the hard part had been admitting it, taking the risk. This risk was far greater than any he'd ever taken, his career, his life, his love, and oh, his city... all on the line. But it was worth it, after all, the greatest risks have the greatest rewards.
And now the hard part is hiding it. Actually, he's pretty sure they suck at that. Sure, military training and all, but really didn't help. And they hadn't really made it back to the quarters after certain brushes with death. And there was a lot of touching going on that he's pretty sure people noticed.
He's not really sure how it happened, but suddenly he's got the family he never had. The dream life he's always wanted. Sure, he almost dies on a regular basis, but he gets to fly fairly often, he gets to shoot things, he has friends who he would die for and they feel the same. He's found true love in the most extraordinary of places and he's having an affair with a city. Oh, and despite all of this, he somehow got promoted.
All in all, life is good.
