I read this and felt the strange urge to share.
An email from a good friend:
"Just found out I'm heading out for a 120 in Baghdad on Christmas Eve, so if any of you know you are heading in or around Iraq from Dec-May, I'll be the ---------- right there on the flightline at Baghdad Intl, a stone's throw away...come say hello! :) N----- heads out the door in May for a mystery deployment, but we'll finally both be back here in July/August ready to pour a half-year of tax free pay into our sweet little money pit we call a home! I'll let you know any more details I have in the next quarterly, but I wanted to let you all know in case you had some springtime plans in Iraq!"
Just in case you weren't positive that I live in a different universe than most of you. Not that it's better or worse - overall, I was struck more by the nonchalance with which events like this have invaded my day to day existence.
