I can't believe I'm on book 3 already, I must have too much time on my hands.
Alex and Me by Irene Pepperberg
I was so excited when I heard this book was out, I'm a big fan of Alex, it was with sadness that I learned that the book was published after Alex's relatively recent death. Alex, the African Grey Parrot, along with Irene changed the way we view animal intelligence. This book demonstrates what Dr. Pepperberg's many scientific papers could not, the deep emotional bond between Alex and his caretakers as well as the many facets of Alex's personality. This book also is a detailed look at the obstacles faced by many scientists who study animal behavior as they try to overcome the mentality that animals are simple stimulus driven automatons. I loved this book!
