rucksacks suck

ok, this morining, I woke up with 45 min to get to work, which isn't bad, but I lagged ass and ended up being late. Good thing is nobody noticed, bad thing is that today we went on a ruck. What this means: we got in our warmest clothing, packed a large backpack with equipment and walked all over mother earth. Up hills, across fields, through woods, etc. for the next 5 hours we trudged our tired asses into anything that didn't move out of our way. Well, all in all, it sounds like no big deal, I mean, we were just walking right? Yes, this is true, it wasn't the actual walking that really made it a pain in the ass, it was the 80 pounds of crap that was on my back the whole way. Running through dense vegetation, laying in the snow and climbing the steep walls of the German foothills. But in the midst of it all, during a water break, me and a few others would pull out our pack of smokes, knowing damn well that the others in the group would look at us like we were idiots, but when we started moving again we kept up and held no one back. I carried the second greatest total weight at 81.3 pounds, a buddy of mine beat me with 96 pounds, most everybody else had 60 to 70 pounds average. We were carrying light today, because usually we try to prepare ourselves for a worst case scenario, which would dictate a 100 to 120 pound pack, and that is not fun at all. Other than that, work was just the usual 'keep busy' day, a little training, a little 'bs'ing, lots of breaks. In the end, not a whole lot went on today. Hope you had a good one.
