God vs. Science

A science professor begins his school year with a lecture to the students, "Let me explain the problem science has with religion." The atheist professor of philosophy pauses before his class and then asks one of his new students to stand.

"You're a Christian, aren't you, son?"

"Yes sir," the student says.

"So you believe in God?"

"Absolutely."

Uh I disagree.. _iam_batman November 27 2007, 18:41:30 UTC
Mainly because absolute brightness has not been ascertained or as for absolute darkness has. My meaning is both heat and cold could be viewed as the absence of the other. We do not know how hot things could get or how cold. The other point is you could see the professor's brain if you wanted to. You might hurt him or kill him but you could see it. So to assume that it does not exist is gross strecth to make a point. And if evil is the absence of God, and God is all powerful then should he not be in both good and evil. And if he is absent in evil then he can not be all powerful. I think that is pure bullshit to say God did not create evil again placing all the blame on the man. Well if you didn't create us to have the potential for evil then there would be none. Just another boggey man story..making the church impowered for furter generations. Making people scared to just live and exist.

I don't agree with all of it, but I thought the cold and hot thing was cool, only because heat can be measured in some sort of way, cold can not. I think that God created everything, included evil, and for someone to think otherwise is crap. How has absolute darkness been achieved?

A lot of this is splitting hairs (along with terrible logic).

Darkness is a ever present force, it surrounds you at all times. I can create light/energy but I cannot create darkness, I can only shield out the light to be aware of darknesses presence. If something cannot be measured it does not necessarily diminish it's existence, it can be weighed upon by other forces. Light/dark and cold/hot can all be observed through it's counterpart. Religious views can't, it is something you have to take faith.

Personally it doesn't matter one way or another. I have my beliefs, and everyone else has theirs. If their conviction is strong enough nothing anyone says will make any difference to you.

I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything, I thought some of it made you think and that was the whole point to me, to make people think. I have my beliefs as well and it's interesting to see what others think or feel, that's all.

I like the idea that evil doesnt exist, it's only an absence of god. I like that.
