friday night was a blast. it was nice to see so many of you there.
(much love goes out to piper, boo, lexi, the video guys, and our resident high school-er: tim)
i'm afraid we were preceded by a strange assortment of bands, but all was well... it was just a matter of waiting for the rapper to get off-stage before we could set up and start. i've listened to my share of rap, including christian, in my time... and this guy... may have had some talent, but wasn't really showing it at all. the first band did mostly covers. (started out their set with .... silverchair? how odd.... and ended with bush... one or two originals.) the second band was missing their lead singer (he was playing baseball... uhm... ok... which comes first? music or sports?) then the hip-hopper from.... chicago.. (you thought i was going to say hell didn't you?) then we played... by then... the already thin crowd had begun to wain... but most everybody came up towards the stage and we did the best we could. (it's on video... from 6 cameras... so at some point if you missed it... you may be able to see it again.) we debuted not only 3 new songs, but also a new drummer and a second guitarist. we also had a call for encore, which was a hash. we're going to have to work something out for the future on that... since we've shelved at least 4 songs since our inception. we even had a moshpit going for a bit (small moshpit... but hey... a pit's a pit... and i spent a few seconds in there... besides grabbing HSIR: tim and screaming into his face during my one song off bass... i think i scared the something-or-other out of him.... next time i'm grabbing piper) dustin also showcased his stage-presence abilities. which was interesting.. i've never seen him move before... not in practice anyways... which is really the only time i've seen him. and nate (new drummer) who's been playing now for four months (not with us. i mean in general) TORE IT UP. i mean really... he's picked up amazingly fast and i've been very impressed. in other news : we made $100 which will be donated to some charity (i suggested rockforlife...but we haven't decided yet)
things went well enough that those of you who stood us up and stayed home get a second chance to see us if you are still in the berrien area. we will be opening the show (also at the underground) on may 14th. the headliner is the honour recital and i've seen them... they're pretty good... worth seeing. the best part is that they pull a crowd of about 300... so that's some nice exposure for us. we'd like to have merch by then.. so if anyone has any ideas. that'd be great.
i (think) i finished maya tonight... now all that's left is the render.. (yipes.)... also saw the punisher... which was pretty good... (now i've still got i robot, van helsing, sky captain, and spiderman 2 left on my list of comicbook/superhero type movies to see.. though those aren't out yet...)
since i'm failing dvd i will not be going to my final on tuesday, and therefore will be done on monday night instead. anyways.. i'm off to get my 3.5 hours of sleep before i head off to harrigan tomorrow for a day of fun and excitement... yippee? still have scanning, editing and printing for my final at 12:45 on pictures that i haven't seen yet (processed, but not in my possession yet...) and then it's the maclab for the rest of the day...
