Moving, finally

Jan 07, 2008 08:04

I left the Cape on Saturday, and I'm back up in New Hampshire for a few days before I finally move down to New Jersey.

I found a place to live in West Orange, which is about 10 minutes outside of Newark, and 15 to 20 minutes from where I'm going to be working initially. The whole Craigslist experience was initially very stressful, but ended up working out well. I discovered that while there may be a good part of Newark to live in (The Ironbound), lots of places that are advertised on Craigslist as being in the Ironbound are not actually there in any way, shape, or form. Also, there are some really sketchy parts of Newark.

I ended up getting a place with a peace activist named Fred. He mostly decided I would be a good housemate because he was impressed by the fact that I was managing to make it work in the non-profit sector - albeit in an area which is much better funded than peace activism. I think it's going to work out well.

The moving process has been a bit crazy, largely because I had stuff stored in random parts of two different houses, which I'm now trying to consolidate. Speaking of which, I should probably go do that.

As a footnote, I'm moving for good on Thursday (yes, staying just long enough for the primary), and then I start work on the 15th. Maybe I'll even post more from New Jersey (which is my way of saying I'll try harder, but I frequently make that promise to myself, and we can see where that's gone).
